Description
Wayne Gordon/Duncan Bruce- Double Artist Series LATHE CUT 8" (Crawlspace Artist Series 2.4)
An edition of, I beleive 50 altogether.10 copies came with one and 10 with the other side cover lithograph by artist Mattias Nilsson. This lithograph one has one of the two lithos. It's really a litho print on paper similar to newspaper stock.
From Crawlspace 1999: Duncan Bruce vs. Wayne Gordon is on our Artist Series and is a dbl 8" lathe record & is due out mid May '99. Now, things get even more weirder...we sent the songs to Mattias Nilsson in Denmark who interrupted them into 2 great drawings...Mattias has also printed 10 lithographs of each cover available to the first 20 orders.
Excerpts from each artists disc were included on the "Fit For Kings - A Compilation Of Peripheral New Zealand Music - Series II" album.
Duncan Bruce has more recently recorded as Rahmane with albums on Veglia and Utech records and a lathe disc on Clayton Noone's (CJA/The Futurians) Root Don Lonie For Cash.
Seht said of Duncan Bruce:
"Duncan Bruce is a treasure. He records under and|or goes by a bewildering array of monikers and pseudonyms: Pubes.. Khalil Rahmane & The Cats of Ulthar.. K. Rahmane.. Kin Rahmane.. Rahmane.. Duicide.. Abnu.. and Dantor, to name but a few. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of jazz and modern music. He is virtually unknown in his own country, but loved -- and legendary -- in the rest of the world. He books gigs and doesn't turn up to play. He releases albums of shambolic noise and weird retardo-exotica on respectable underground imprints in Western Europe (Veglia). He has an ambigious relationship with publicity -- about two incomprehensible Dutch-language 'net interviews -- and he once remarked that "anything beats getting mentioned in Real Groove or NZ Musician". He was run out of the northern Afghanistani province of Kunduz on a rail, for allegedly interfering with their chickens. He's the coolest dad I know."
LF Records says of Duncan Bruce/Rahmane:
Thought you had a grip on the whole New Zealand free noise/drone/freak scene? You best think again. Duncan Bruce (aka Rahmane) has been a shadowy figure on this edge-of-the-world noise steppe for the past decade. He’s hit downtime with the likes of Armpit, skronked heavy with Crude and layed down solo sax dervish rotations that have split skulls and flayed the skin offa legions of hornless infidels. Recordings are tough to track (Bruce has previous releases on Veglia and Freedom From), but New Glass Tapu is a fresh divination from the depths – 9 tracks of free jizz and radiation burn in the form of reed scouring feedback, decomposed electronics, piano blindness and astral drone. Sounds like some deep long lost 60’s freakout document recorded in the Rif and buried in a stale veil of opium/djinn haze. As with the best produce from these antipodes, this sounds a trillion miles out-there.
The cd r features team-ups between Bruce and talents of Clayton ‘CJA’ Noone (Armpit, The Futurians), Tim Cornelius (Sandoz Lab Technicians) and Lee Noyes (Wolfskull/Behemothaur) I’m ultra-excited to be releasing this cut of love from the man, it’s an ecstatic joy and hopefully fills in some more gaps in the labyrinthine story of the modern NZ sound thing.

Kning Disk – The Record Label that Combines Music and Art:
Kning Disk is the record label that combines music, sound art and design. Here they devote as much care to the handmade covers as they do to the music. Jacob Uddling, who works at The Swedish National Archive of Recorded Sound and Moving Images, has interviewed the designer Mattias Nilsson about the art of creating the perfect packaging.
Every disc is specially designed by the founder Mattias Nilsson, who after he has designed the packaging also folds, cuts and pastes together all the covers himself. The discs have a limited edition of eight to 999 copies. Free jazz, pop, folk music, spoken word, noiserock, guitar- and piano music, electronica, electronic and electroacoustic music – Kning Disk accommodates all this and more.
Inspired by Öyvind Fahlström and Kalejdoskop Mattias receives me in the small, workshop-like office at Stigbergstorget in Gothenburg. When he presents disc covers and plays new artists on the Record Company’s My Space site, the enthusiasm and pride is very palpable – Kning Disk is a project run with great passion.
Kning Disk was created in 2005 when Mattias was still a student at HDK (School of Design and Craft at Göteborg University). While studying he started to work with exhibitions by the artist Öyvind Fahlström, and it gave him the idea of starting Kning Disk.
Another source of inspiration was Kalejdoskop, a publishing house founded in 1978 as an extension of the art review with the same title. For many years they published art and music in small, fine, handmade editions. Kning Disk is a natural continuation of Kalejdoskops’ achievement, whose founder Sture Lindblad has told Mattias that he has now “taken over the baton”.
Apart from Mattias Kning Disk also consists of the text- and sound artist Dan Fröberg and A.S. Bessa, Director of the Bronx Museum in New York. Bessa is not involved the practical work, but has the right of veto in decision matters and “has a lot of good connections”, as Mattias contently puts it. Kning Disk distributes as many foreign artists as Swedish ones. Sometimes it can be frustrating that all three have to agree on decisions. The dance/rock-combo Studio, appreciated by critics, asked if Kning Disk wanted to release their next album, but Dan felt they did not fit the record label’s profile.
– I think they fit in perfectly, Mattias sighs.
