ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This handsome and rather scarce LP from Ducretet Thomson (320 C 150, French pressing, red circle label, mono) features pianist Daniel Wayenberg's brilliant and highly individual accounts of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and Stravinsky's Three Movements from Petrouchka, both recorded at the Salle Wagram, Paris on 22 July 1959. Curiously, very little Wayenberg has surfaced on compact disc (his EMI Gershwin recordings being the most notable). He is an artist richly deserving of systematic re-issue on compact disc and renewed appreciation by new audiences. His own personal takes on these works are quite fascinating.

 

Incidentally, the liner notes (in French only) are by Michel Briguet – on record, an even more elusive pianist. In addition, there is a signature to the rear panel that may be by Wayenberg; it's a bit difficult to tell.

 

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

 

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is bumping/wear at corners, as well as edgewear in general and some discoloration to the rear panel. However, there are no seamsplits or other defects and the album remains solid and quite attractive– overall, a very good collector's copy.

 

The condition of the LP itself is VERY GOOD. Although the surfaces are not CD silent – there is occasional light surface noise – this remains an enjoyable copy – overall, an very good collector's copy.
