 After the death of Warren Zevon, his son Jordan discovered a bulk of unreleased material, some of these recordings were issued on 'Preludes: Rare and Unreleased Recordings.  Preludes also showed how Zevon's material progressed during the songwriting / recording process. This Acetate is another perfect example an early Zevon demo, as this version of 'Hasten Down The Wind' is Piano only, with occasional backing backing vocals.  It is also a shorter version clocking in at only 2 minutes, 11 seconds.  I have not been able to find this version released on any other commercial Zevon releases, and therefore I consider this an exclusive version.  

Those familiar with Acetates know they deteriorate after several listens, or due to poor storage.  Even if they look in EX condition, the real story can only be revealed using a loupe.  They are also difficult to keep clean, and as even residual deep in the grooves can greatly increase popping on playback.  This copy did have surface noise/pops in parts during the playback, which faded as after the 1st 10 secs.  There some minor scuffs, but the overall quality seemed VG.  Given the rarity of this demo, that won't be a factor for the Zevon fan.  

I have enclosed hi-res scans of the disc, which will reveal fibers in the grooves, this was not cleaned before it was scanned. It should be noted, Acetates were only meant for a few plays before being disposed of.  The MP3 of this item is straight 'as is' sound, the following You Tube is taken from the disc itself, but this has been restored and pops removed for enhancement.

RECORD GRADING

MINT (M): Record as new and still sealed or unplayed.
NEAR MINT (NM): Both sleeve and vinyl appear in superb condition with no visual damage.
EXCELLENT (EX): Sleeve may have some very slight wear and vinyl may have some very slight surface marks.
VERY GOOD (VG): Sleeve will have some normal wear and tear without any major defects and vinyl will have noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch.
GOOD (G): Sleeve and contents will suffer from folding, scuffing and/ or edge splits, discoloration etc.  Vinyl will have numerous surface marks/ light scratches.
FAIR (F): The sleeve has serious damage- major tears, staining etc.  Vinyl will have serious damage- deep scratches etc.  Records in this condition will be collection-fillers only.
