1. The Warhol Look. Glamour Style Fashion. by Mark Francis and Margery King. Published for The Andy Warhol Exhibit at The Andy Warhol Museum(ISBN#0-8212-2476-X). Hardback 304 pages.
From his childhood in the 1930s, when he collected Hollywood fan mags and publicity photos, Andy Warhol was obsessed with glamour, style and fashion. After moving to New York in 1949 he soon made his mark in the world of advertising and commercial art, and when he turned to fine art in the 1960s, fashion and commercial imagery continued to pervade his work. This book illustrates the decisive impact of his work on fashion and glamour and how that involvement and the "Warhol Style" have powerfully influenced contemporary art. The book takes us on a grand tour of Warhol's passion for the swank and the chic: the publicity shots of Marilyn Monroe; his fashion drawings of the 1950s; photos of his department store window displays; the "silver factory" works of the 1960s that blurred the lines between avant-garde and popular culture; his explorations of gender identity; and "Interview" magazine and the downtown club scene - epicentres of style and trendsetting.
Condition 7- or VG in dust jacket spine a little loose, clean un-written in.
2. Andy by Christopher Makos. Assouline Publishing(ISBN#2-84323 279-1) Hardback 72 pages.
For the first time since they were shot in 1981, the story behind Christopher Makos' Altered Images photographs of Andy Warhol is told. Makos has a history of recognizing trends, fashions and social movements long before most others. His highly acclaimed book White Trash caught Warhol's eye and the two men began a friendship based on an ever-flowing exchange of ideas, inspiration and technical knowledge. Inspired by the famous photographs that Man Ray took of Marcel Duchamp in drag in 1921, "Rrose Selavy," Makos created a fresh and unique concept. Mixing elements of style, traditional gender cues, and mysterious sexuality, Makos went beyond portrait and photojournalism, giving a glimpse into the future of blurred gender and alternative drag. Evocation, intimate and campy, Andy is a true reflection of Makos' and Warhol's uniquely creative and fertile collaboration.
Condition 10 or Mint new in dust jacket.
3. Andy Warhol 1928-1987 Commerce into Art. by Klaus Honnef. Taschen Publishing(ISBN#3-8228-0293-X) Hardback 96 pages.
Andy Warhol is recognized today as the most important exponent of the Pop Art movement. He overturned the traditional understanding of art and placed in its stead a concept that retracts the individuality of the artist. Warhol was a critical observer of American society, exposing his compatriots' consumerism in his paintings ("Campbell-" and "Brillo" series), as well as their fascination for sensational journalism. In 1963 Warhol founded his "Factory" in New York, literally a manufactory of ideas and work, which influenced film in the 1960s, published the influential magazine "Interview" in the late 1970s, and also produced Warhol's own artwork: Warhol conceived the idea, and a "worker" in his factory carried it out. The work remained (consciously) unsigned - a fact which nevertheless did nothing to diminish Warhol's reputation. He once complained that rich New Yorkers would willingly hang his "Electric Chain" in their living rooms - as long as its colours co-ordinated with the wallpaper and draperies.
Condition 7+ or EX Mick Jagger on cover, dust jacket, light foxing, un-written in, includes article from a magazine with photos by Robert Mapplethorpe.
