Description
Frequently cited as ‘the greatest recording of all time’, the Solti Ring Cycle was recorded with the Vienna Philharmonic between 1958 and 1965.
The cycle features many of the 20th century’s greatest Wagnerians including George London, Kirsten Flagstad, James King, Régine Crespin, Hans Hotter, Birgit Nilsson and Wolfgang Windgassen,
This is a superb example of the celebrated Decca presentation set released in 1970. The set includes an embossed wooden presentation case featuring a design by Arthur Rackham, full synopsis and libretto for each opera, again with illustrations by Rackham, and a three LP introduction to the Ring narrated by Deryck Cooke featuring excerpts from the four operas. As a bonus, a programme from the 1979 English National Opera production of Siegfried has found its way in!
Most importantly, the records themselves are without exception in near mint condition. The booklets are all in excellent clean condition with no folds or tears. The record sleeves are all present and in generally very good condition though as is common the seams of a number of them have separated as the glue has deteriorated over time. One or two of the sleeves have small nicks/tears.
The presentation box is in overall very good condition, structurally sound with wear to the front of the slip cases and a few scratches to the back as shown in the photos.
