No blues singer ever presented a more gentle, genial image than Mississippi John Hurt. A guitarist with an extraordinarily lyrical and refined fingerpicking style, he also sang with a warmth unique in the field of blues, and the gospel influence in his music gave it a depth and reflective quality unusual in the field. Coupled with the sheer gratitude and amazement that he felt over having found a mass audience so late in life, and playing concerts in front of thousands of people -- for fees that seemed astronomical to a man who had always made music a sideline to his life as a farm laborer -- these qualities make Hurt's recordings into a very special listening experience.John Smith Hurt (possibly March 3, 1892 or March 8, 1893[1][nb 1] – November 2, 1966), better known as Mississippi John Hurt, was an American country blues singer and guitarist.[3]
Raised in Avalon, Mississippi, Hurt taught himself how to play the guitar around age nine. He worked as a sharecropper and began playing at dances and parties, singing to a melodious fingerpicked accompaniment.[4] His first recordings, made for Okeh Records in 1928, were commercial failures, and he continued to work as a farmer.
Tom Hoskins, a blues enthusiast, located Hurt in 1963 and persuaded him to move to Washington, D.C. He was recorded by the Library of Congress in 1964. This helped further the American folk music revival, which had led to the rediscovery of many other bluesmen of Hurt's era. Hurt performed on the university and coffeehouse concert circuit with other Delta blues musicians who were brought out of retirement. He also recorded several albums for Vanguard Records.

.please check .RECORD IN PLASTIC SLEVE TO CONSERVE PRESTINE CONDITION MINT Means possible unplayed> NM means near mint, in other words it's close to perfect no nicks, marks, wear or scratches. Might have a tiny light scuff mark on the record. Plays perfect NO effect to sound quality. EX means that it is in excellent condition. There may be slight wear on the cover, but no seam splits, and not a lot of wear, it still looks great. For the record it means that it may have a few light marks, but nothing feelable, or that would light marks on the record. VG++ means that the cover may have a small seam split, or a lot of wear, but still look good. For the record it means that there may be several light marks on the record, or a couple of feelable marks that could effect the play but would not ruin the record. This could mean a short scratch or 2 on one or 2 songs
