WOODSTOCK, HENDRIX, WHO ET AL,1970 UK 1st PLUM ATLANTIC

From my own personal collection I am pleased to offer an exceptional example of the iconic film soundtrack triple album titled “WOODSTOCK”, Catalogue Number 2663 001. This is an ORIGINAL 1970 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the PLUM & ORANGE ATLANTIC RECORD LABEL, with a superb 1st issue E. J. DAY TRIFOLD SLEEVE. Complete with correct matching white poly-lined inner sleeves. [The matrix numbers are the earliest A//1 C//1, E//2 F//1 and D//1 B//1].

The sleeve is in EX condition with only very light wear and barely any creasing. The front and back covers and opening trifold spread are unmarked. There is a tiny indentation mark near the bottom edge of the back cover (see close-up photo). The spine is square and solid with perfect text. There are no splits, tears, graffiti or any other detracting features. This is a really tough sleeve to find in tidy condition – but this one is a truly excellent example which may be very difficult to improve upon.

The top quality Atlantic records have only received a few careful plays. Record 1 is in EX condition and Records 2 and 3 are MINT-. They are nice mid-weight pressings which retain their beautiful “just pressed” shine. Record 1 has a couple of small light surface marks evident under bright light but Records 2 and 3 are visually immaculate. The beautiful plum & orange Atlantic labels are like new with only a few short spindle traces each side. There is no wear to the spindle holes. This is an essential addition to any record collection in my opinion. The sound engineers did an amazing job under very difficult circumstances – helicopters buzzing overhead, crowd noise, security announcements, etc. In addition to brilliant music it provides a compelling social commentary and insight into the mood of the younger generation during the 1970 period. The sound quality of these original Atlantic pressings is quite exceptional for a live recording given the circumstances – it’s very raw and vibrant with mostly clear and detailed playback. All 6 sides play MINT- throughout. There is no discernable deterioration in sound quality and barely any unwanted noise at all. With the exception of a few light tics during the Stage Announcements at the end of Track 2 on Side 1 playback is faultless. I think that it will be almost impossible to find another 1st press copy of this standard.

The matching white poly-lined inner sleeves have a few creases and some age discoloration but are otherwise unmarked. There are no splits to the edges – just 2 short tears from one centre cut-out of one inner.

Overall this is a magnificent 1st press copy of this iconic triple album which will grace any record collection.

GRADINGS

The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega P5 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:

·         MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.

·         EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.

·         VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects but is still very presentable.
