If you're new to the world of Will Wood, then welcome to a wonderfully eccentric, at times erratic, and always entertaining place. Released in 2020, at the height of Covid-19 lockdowns across the world, The Normal Album is the US singer-songwriter's third album and may have passed by amid the insanity of the time. Back then, it was as jarringly hyperactive (considering how sedentary society was at the time) as fittingly insane (it was, after all, a period of 'collective un-precedence'). Now is probably the perfect moment to revisit and reissue, then - as the planet, or at least its human tenants, have essentially thrown norms out the window and opted instead to jump headfirst into shared mania. A breathtaking work in the literal and symbolic sense, Wood's music is a fast-paced theatric eruption of jazz, new wave, disco, doo-wop, cabaret and ska, dark wit pervading throughout this lesson in musicianship.
