How in the [underwater] hell did this not show up on discogs earlier? It is such a stunning record! Never heard of Jezz Woodroffe before but this lavish record must be his masterpiece! Everything about it is so fresh & extravagant (high gloss picture cover, detailed sleeve notes on literally everything about this project, lush inner sleeve with even more pictures and extensive song descriptions, fancy cat-and-mouse private label design & all those little details), one would think many many thousand copies of this were [intended to be] sold. Au contraire: It seems like very few of these were made and even less went over the counter. What looks like a strange [underwater] record, that one of those Instagram chumps would love to brag about, must have suffered a dark destiny.
Nowadays these kind of records go for quite big money, but I guess most of the copies of this album ended up in the dollar bin or even in the waste bin some time later... This seems to be only reasonable explanation why this record does not show up anywhere. Everything I found after a online research, was this being mentioned on Jonny White's blog. Unfortunately he was not able to find much about the movie, this soundtrack album was made for, but it's a great review and you can hear actual sound samples over there. This is what this record is all about!
It's four long compositions and the music is kind of minimalistic but really captivating, using a lot of [now] vintage synth keyboards. The list of the equipment being used is loooooong! I would say some parts of the record sound a little Tangerine Dreamesque but others may disagree. Anyway, this does not sound like the usual boring ambient stuff and has a lot of complex sound structures. Some parts remind me of Fabio Fabor - Aquarium for their funkyness, which is no surprise as they come from the same era. Some parts sound a little psychedelic, too! What I also really enjoy, is the samples that were added. I assume these come from straight from the shootings? Also the fact that the music was created in front of a big screen with tons of electronic machines is kind of appealing even if it does not add anything to the music.
All in all a great [lost] soundtrack record which destiny we will probably never find out. Look for it in the lower bins of your favourite UK record shop for £1.00 or on discogs or ebay for $1,000,000...
