A VG+ test pressing which our individual and collective efforts have failed to identify. The steps to identification are pretty straightforward: listen and hopefully identify the track by ear; check the label and sleeve for artist/title; check the label/runout for a catalogue number; listen to the tracks (again) for self-identification of the artists, a refrain that might serve as the title, unusual rhymes, etc. that might pin the tune down. Neither I nor the collective ear of our staff and their acquaintances could identify this number. No artist/title listed on label or sleeve. The matrix number matches, per discogs, a Smokin'/Tuff City 1986 release by The RU called "You're Givin' Love a Bad Name" but there's simply no way this is that. The artists' self-identification as Funkmaster MC Wizard Wiz and Beatbox Master DJ Quick suggests some candidates but these proved either unverifiable or unlikely. So our best guess is that this is an unreleased test pressing from about '85 which Smokin' scuttled, reusing the catalogue number to release The RU track. If anyone watching the auction and/or recognizing the sample knows better and cares to share it with us, I'll be happy to append a note to the listing.

Tuff City diecut. Clean labels. Glossy sides with a long NS hairline to the A and a smaller NS earlier on the side, paper scuff near the edge; B has a few very small NS hairlines and a touch of scuff. Play is generally very clean: heard some soft ticks at the end of A1 and start of A2 but quite minor; otherwise, very light static in spots, both sides. Here it is, at last (3 weeks later than I'd hoped to present it, but other business stepped in front), the 3rd and (for now) final auction of white labels, acetates and oddities from a NY deejay collection. There should be clips and pics attached to every listing; if the link to a clip fails, please let me know and I'll attach a replacement.
