Description
A very first UK pressing (Nov 1963) of the "rare for its time" original stereo version of "With The Beatles" - their second album with all the misprints associated with it. Yellow and black Parlophone labels. "Dark black" outer sleeve. Large "stereo" on front sleeve. This record was pressed in 1963 and is NOT a later, second pressing or a reissue, when EMI stereo issues were more common.
The "Jobete" publishing error on the credit for "Money", the "Gotta" error on both the label and the outer sleeve. It should have been "Got A". (The "Wilson" songwriting credit error occurred on subsequent pressings)
This first UK pressing of around 500 copies is identified by the mother and stamper details of 1G and 1R on both sides of the vinyl - 1G on one side and 1R on the other. The master matrix no. is YEX 110-2 and YEX 111-2 (YEX denoting stereo) - only the second laquer was used for production purposes - there was no -1 mix released. Because twin production lines were used, I think I am correct in saying there were no discs with 1G/1G or 1R/1R produced. There is the KT tax code for 1st July 1963 embossed in the centre of the label for side 2.
Most music lovers did not have stereo equipment in 1962, and so the number of stereos released by EMI were few, making this a scare item. It was not until 1969 that stereo became fully established.
This item is known to have been one owner when acquired, most probably by an audiophile who appreciated good quality sound, which accounts for the excellent condition of the vinyl. It has been played, but clearly has been looked after and cared for, exhibiting no scratches, marks , scuffs etc. The sound quality backs this up.
The labels and inner Emitex poly lined sleeve are writing and mark/tear-free - the original EMI inner sleeve particularly nice. The outer sleeve with minor creasing, only has a small, less than 1cm nick on the opening edge and a small mark on the rear.
This is a very first 1963 STEREO pressing, with all the misprints associated with it, 1G/1R mothers/stampers, with the vinyl and inner poly-lined sleeve in excellent condition, priced reasonably.
It will be delivered in a professional record mailer and comes with its polythene cover to protect it and keep in this condition.
