SUPERB UK VERY FIRST PRESSING OF WIRE'S POST-PUNK MASTERPIECE

Chairs Missing marks a partial retreat from Pink Flag's austere, bare-bones minimalistic Pink Flag, although it still takes concentrated listening to dig out some of the melodies.
Producer Mike Thorne's synth adds a Brian Eno-esque layer of atmospherics, and Wire itself seems more concerned with the sonic textures it can coax from its instruments; the tempos are slower, the arrangements employ more detail and sound effects, and the band allows itself to stretch out on a few songs.
The album's clear high point is the statement of purpose "I Am the Fly," which employs an emphasis-shifting melody and guitar sounds that actually evoke the sound of the title insect. But that's not all by any means -- "Outdoor Miner" and "Used To" have a gentle lilt, while "Sand in My Joints" is a brief anthem worthy of Pink Flag, and the four-minute "Practice Makes Perfect" is the best result of the album's incorporation of odd electronic flavours.
In general, the lyrics are darker than those on Pink Flag, even morbid at times; images of cold, drowning, pain, and suicide haunt the record, and the title itself is a reference to mental instability.
The arty darkness of Chairs Missing, combined with the often icy-sounding synth/guitar arrangements, helps make the record a crucial landmark in the evolution of punk into post-punk and goth, as well as a testament to Wire's rapid development and inventiveness.

Side 1: Practice Makes Perfect (4:06) / French Film Blurred (2:35) / Another The Letter (1:06) / Men 2nd (1:43) / Marooned (2:21) / Sand In My Joints (1:57) / Being Sucked In Again (3:12) / Heartbeat (3:15)
Side 2: Mercy (5:46) / Outdoor Miner (1:45) / I Am The Fly (3:06) / I Feel Mysterious Today (1:56) / From The Nursery (3:00) / Used To (2:21) / Too Late (4:16)

LABELS: MINT
Clean, bright, factory-fresh labels with no spindle traces or signs of use
VINYL Visual: MINT
Beautifully clean and bright surfaces which look like new and appear completely unmarked, even under very bright light
VINYL Audio: MINT
My play-check at loud volume revealed no audio issue at all - no scratches, no clicks or pops and no groove-wear or distortion (possibly completely unplayed) - flawless sound throughout
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT
Apart from some general light wear and 'knocks' to both bottom corners the sleeve is in great sharp - clean and unmarked with very little rubbing and a straight and true spine where all text is clear and bold
INNER SLEEVE: VERY GOOD
But only given such a low rating as there is a tiny central split to the bottom edge and record impression to one side edge otherwise, it's practically NEAR MINT - clean, sharp and fresh with just a soft crease to the bottom corner

ALL RECORDS ARE PACKAGED WITH THE VINYL OUTSIDE OF THE SLEEVE TO PREVENT ANY ‘KNIFING’ DURING TRANSIT
A PROTECTIVE POLY SLEEVE, NEW INNER SLEEVE WITH NEW ANTI-STATIC LINER, QUALITY BOX (NOT ENVELOPE) MAILER AND AMPLE STIFFENERS ARE ALWAYS USED TO ENSURE THAT YOUR RECORD ARRIVES SAFELY
