Practically every soulful singer, with the kind of drive that Wilson has, started his career in the spiritual field.  Wilson, originally from Pratwille, Alabama, started his singing career performing with gospel groups and as a gospel soloist in and around Detroit.  In 1959 he was discovered by Willie Schofield of the famous Falcons.  While with the Falcons, Wilson became aware of the world of Rhythm and Blues, and at the same time the fans of the Falcons became aware of the soulful drive that Wilson had brought into this new world of music.  He became an instant hit.  From that beginning he has blossomed into one of the hottest artists in concerts and one-nighter tours, and has appeared on most of the top rock-and-roll television shows in New York and Hollywood.

Wilson Pickett’s remarkable abilities as a singer are only a part of his musical talent.  He is also an accomplished songwriter.  Pickett has written or co-written all of the songs on this LP – quite an achievement when you consider the variety of tunes found in the album.  For Atlantic he has recorded three best sellers in a row, For Better Or Worse, I’m Gonna Cry and In The Midnight Hour, all of which were written for Pickett by Pickett.  This is his first Atlantic album, and Wilson Pickett will surely follow it with a string of tremendous new hits which will appear on the singles charts as well as the LP charts!”
