Raw, sometimes sloppy material by this enigmatic psychedelic cult band appeared on an extremely rare debut album in 1966 on the ridiculously rare Fifo M 101 (their first LP for Reprise, Part One, is usually considered their first recording). West Coast Pop Art were always a strange act, and this album does nothing to tarnish that perception. It's not so much the weirdness of the sound -- they could be plenty weird per se on Zappaesque freakouts like "Help I’m a rock", but only occasionally. It's more the sheer unpredictable range of the material. One minute they're attacking classic top forty rock and roll and classic jazz instrumentals with all the finesse of teenagers in their bedroom; the next they're doing pretty psych-pop tunes with a bizarre edge; then there are the covers, which are approached as if they are Yardbirds tunes, with splashes of feedback and hard rock/R&B arrangements. And then there are splashes of baroque pop worthy of the Left Banke or late-period Zombies. No stylistic consistency whatsoever, in other words, but plenty of extremist energy, and occasional actual inspiration.

 Which makes this hard to recommend to anyone other than psychedelic junkies.

 But if you fit under that umbrella, it's not bad at all, though wildly erratic.

I've been collecting records for over thirty years and am aware of the variety of grading philosophies that abound, including the "Goldmine" standard.

My records are graded by traditional Goldmine standards. I don't sell records with a grading of less VG unless it is obscenely rare in any condition.

Most of my records will grade from VG+ to M- with a conservative approach that dictates a borderline record will receive a lower grading rather than a "push" higher. 

M- / Visually without blemishes save for very minor lines or scuffs that are most likely attributable to sleeve marks, Sonically with no or virtually no sound other than that of the recording itself (no pops,crackles, ticks or hissing).

VG+ / More obvious visual signs of imperfections, pressing imperfections (bubbles for example, that do not impact play quality) light "skid" marks that can be seen but not "felt", some perceptable noise between tracks or at lead in, general sound  quality during play is uncompromised.

VG / Recording is visually and sonically of high quality, without skips or excessive noise during playback.

In some extreme instances I will submit a grading of R.M.F. (which means Rare Musical Find) to advise it is something special to consider.

Vinyl and Jackets are graded within these same general guidlines.

All specific areas of concern are noted to the best of my ability.

I try to insure all records are play graded (which I believe most collectors rate the higher priority) by spot checking areas that may be questionable and generally checking for quality overall.

I may make errors in grading and if it should occur I will make every effort to ensure you are completely satisfied with your purchase.

I ship worldwide, however those outside of the United States and Canada must pay via PayPal.

Personal Checks require approximately two (2) days after deposit to clear.

Insurance is not included although highly recommended to avoid debates that may occur without it (mis-directed package, damaged item, etc.)

Shipping to the 50 states is a flat $4.50 USPS Media Mail rate by estimating this item between 1-2 pounds. Rates increase as package weight increases. This includes custom packaging for the safe delivery of your item.

I usually ship within two (2) days after payment is received.

Shipping elsewhere will be quoted at the end of the auction and will be destination dependant. Most overseas shippments will be done via Airmail Letter Post which is cost effective and a relatively fast delivery turnaround.
