WAYNE SHORTER JuJu 1985 Blue Note France DMM Reissue BST 84182 McCoy Tyner EX/EX

JuJu is Wayne Shorter's fifth album as a leader, recorded August 3, 1964 at Van Gelder Studio with a rhythm section on loan from John Coltrane's group — McCoy Tyner on piano, Reggie Workman on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums. The six Shorter originals, including the title track and "House of Jade," find him stepping further into his own compositional voice after years with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers.

This is the 1985 Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) reissue, Blue Note BST 84182, manufactured for Manhattan Records (a Division of Capitol Industries, Inc.) by EMI France. DMM cuts directly to a copper-coated master disc rather than through a conventional lacquer stage, giving these French pressings a distinct, well-regarded sound among collectors.

Cream label with blue "Blue Note / The Finest in Jazz Since 1939" arched text, consistent with this reissue series. Includes the original Nat Hentoff liner notes on the back cover, plus "The Blue Note Story" history feature printed on the inner sleeve.
