Description
LAVINIA TURNER, a sassy blues singer, gives out with "WATCH ME GO" and "YOU NEVER MISS A GOOD THING TILL IT'S GONE" on this rare Pathé record. Although the label has the accompaniment credit as "Jas. P. Johnson and his Harmony Seven," it's actually the dean of Harlem pianists, JAMES P. JOHNSON, all by himself, laying down some of the tastiest, most rollicking, most hard-hitting stride piano you or I have ever heard. This was in 1921, the first year of his recording career.
(Curiously, an unknown second pair of hands joins James P. in the first few seconds of the piano introduction on both sides, giving a kind of "player piano" effect, then withdraws to let J. P. get down to business.)
This original 1921 hill-and-dale Pathé 20704 is in nice E- condition. Minimal scratches and wear. You will need a special extra-wide (.007" or so) stylus and vertical phasing on your pre-amp to get the best sound out of it! A half-inch long by three-sixteenths inch wide edge flake does not intrude into the grooves.

I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
