Warhorse : Red Sea 1Y*1 / 2Y*1 1st press 1972 Vertigo

This first pressing plays to an incredible standard with no interference.  There are no ticks, clicks or pops and next to no static also - just a modicum of mega quiet static for 4/5 seconds that is all!  Even the quiet sections play with stunning clarity.  What I did notice playing this classic album (in full) is the sheer depth and power of the audio - there are so many examples of that on both sides but 'Mouthpiece' in particular is mind-blowing!  It plays like it was pressed only yesterday!  The sonic quality throughout is exceptional and this is easily the cleanest version of this album that I have ever heard.

The cover is in excellent condition and most of the wear is restricted to the edges but even then not an excessive amount.  It has retained its original shape and structure perfectly with no bends or creasing.  The original Vertigo inner is also in great condition.

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a strong glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can only detect a few faint hairlines and there is nothing that stands out because they are purely superficial.  There is no groove or surface wear and no bag 'rash' either.  The Vertigo labels are unmarked aside from some spindle wear mainly around the centre hole.

Play grading

The intro on 'Red Sea' plays with great depth and warmth and there is no background.  Holt's first vocal is of the same standard and already you can tell just how clean this audio is.  The first 'quiet' section plays beautifully and Parks solo then plays with perfect clarity and power.  It continues in the same way and Holt's final vocal is as powerful as it is clean.  No background on the fade out either.  Easily a Mint start to this classic album, no need for a minus here.

The intro on 'Back In Time' could not play any better and the opening vocal is equal to that.  The dynamic 'busy' instrumental that follows is outstanding - no distortion on the top end - and Parks 'heavy' guitar piece is just as strong.  This is so impressive and exemplifies why these Vertigo pressings are so collectable, the sonic quality is amazing.  Yes the music has to be good and Warhorse certainly deliver that in spades!  This entire section plays with such quality - a couple of barely audible statics that is all.  As Poole comes back in the audio is STUNNING and there is such a strong, deep bass line from Simper also.  The remainder plays with genuine quality and this has to be graded as Mint- at the very least.

A strong bass intro on 'Confident But Wrong' and it plays to perfection.  The opening vocal section is on the same level and it continues to play with a quality that is second to none.  No ticks, clicks, pops or static the playback is so clean - a more straightforward rock track and there is barely any inner groove distortion.  The quiet mid section plays with stunning clarity and the following instrumental is superb!  Great power and definition, what a solo from Parks.  The final vocal is of course so powerful and there is only minimal distortion, nothing that you would deem intrusive.  Near Mint

The quiet piano intro on 'Feeling Better' plays so clearly with only minimal light static on the first 4/5 seconds.  Holt's opening vocal plays with great clarity and as Simper and Poole come in the playback is superb.  This standard is kept up as it progresses and the next quiet passage has no background at all.  The next vocal section is flawless and the rest of the rest of the track plays with stunning precision once more.  A Mint- end to the side.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Simper's bass intro on 'Sybiilla' plays perfectly and as Wilson and then Parks join in there is still no intrusion.  Holt's opening vocal section is just as strong and clear.  From then on the sonic quality does not falter - Parks mid solo is stunning as is the next vocal.  This encapsulates everything good about this great band.  Tremendous power and definition - there is no interference and even the long fade out has no background.  Mint

The gentle intro on 'Mouthpiece' plays with sublime clarity - a couple of barely audible dust ticks and I do mean barely audible!  As it builds the playback is incredible and Poole's solo is perfect.  The few silence of silence is totally silent and the next instrumental section again plays with such quality.  The sheer depth and resonance of the audio is phenomenal - the production on this album is terrific and when you get a vinyl as clean as this it's further enhanced in a way.  I mean if you win this just listen intently to the mid section where Wilson and Poole are really going 'at it' the sonic quality is STUNNING!  I cannot emphasise enough just how unbelievable the audio is - so sharp and precise.  It continues in exactly the same way and whilst drum solos may not be everyone's 'thing' there is no denying the quality of the audio.  It gets quieter towards the end but again there is literally no background and to the end it plays with imperious quality.  This is MINT in every way!  Stunning and wow!

The countdown intro on 'I (Who Have Nothing)' has no background and the instrumental section with Parks leading the way is faultless.  The opening vocal is plays with such clear audio and it shows the versatility of Holt's voice.  It proceeds in much the same way - with real power and depth and if there is any inner groove distortion it is so so minimal.  The sonic quality is still so 'clean' and it can be played 'loud' with no discernible affect on the audio.  Holt's vocal at the end is all conquering all powerful!  I've always thought he had a great voice and that is very much in evidence here.  Only very minimal distortion but it still sounds fantastic!  Near Mint is a fair assessment of the audio and I hope I haven't underestimated it!  A stunning album.

The Gatefold & Vertigo Inner Sleeve

The cover is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear.  There is some rubbing on the top and bottom edges but not an excessive amount.  The wide spine remains strong with only a small number of 'rubs' and the corners are very clean with only very minimal wear.  The opening edge has hardly any handling wear.  The front cover is in superb order with only one very small scuff in the 'h' I nearly missed it!  The back cover is near perfect with only a couple of minor blemishes and the inside of the gatefold is so clean with very little marking.  A very strong example overall.

The original Vertigo inner (dated 0372) is in great shape with no side splits or tears, barely any age related fading or marking and only some light creasing mainly in one corner.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
