MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original CBS Records very first Stereo press released in Chile in 1974 by CBS Records, made and distributed by Industrias Eléctricas Y Musicales Odeon S.A. (Odeon Records Chile), licensed from Trans-Electronic Music Productions, Inc., USA, through CBS USA, with catalog number SLPC-49016, with hand etched matrix numbers AL 31480 HS 1 in Side A and BL 31480 HS 1 in Side B, with orange/black centered boxed CBS Records labels of the period. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“A CLOCKWORK ORANGE” was originally released in 1972 as part of the soundtrack of the iconic Stanley Kubrick movie by the also iconic electronic musician Wendy Carlos, who was born as Walter Carlos and changed sex in 1972, but we had to wait until 1974 to see this album released here in Chile and like usual in that period, we got it with an UNIQUE COVER, made of two single pieces of a very thin cardboard for both front and back covers kept together for an outer plastic bag which’s also part of the cover. Front cover keeps strictly the original US artwork, with album title in Spanish only, “LA NARANJA MECANICA” (literally translated “THE MECHANIC ORANGE”). Back cover is different, with the tracklist written in Spanish, translated to original language in some songs, with full credits for songwriters and arrangements in some cases, and a long review about the work of Walter Carlos, song by song, written in Spanish only. In labels, all the text, album title and tracklist, are written in Spanish only, with full credits for songwriters and additional information about licenses. So, here you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE CHILEAN PRESS of this classic soundtrack LP “A Clockwork Orange” by Walter (Wendy) Carlos, with UNIQUE COVER and Spanish-written song titles, a record rarely seen and A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of Walter (Wendy) Carlos and Classic/Electronic music of the ‘70’s!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in great EX+ or NM- condition, clear and clean, no writings, no bends, no blemishes, only minimal wear in corners and a faint crease at top right corner. The outer plastic bag is complete and clean, it’s in EX- or EX condition, with a little “seam split” at the bottom edge, caused for the record, and a rip in back cover, caused when the plastic bag was originally opened, and some general wear. The record is in great EX- or EX condition the Side A, glossy and clean, with only some light scuffs, hairlines and some very faint scratches, and in EX or EX+ condition the Side B, glossy and clean, with only light scuffs and hairlines, which don’t affect play at all. Labels on both sides are in great NM or NM+ condition, clean and clear, with only minimal spindle wear, more evident in Side A. The sound is in strong VG or VG+ condition the Side A, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with constant soft crackles, a little bit more evident in silent parts, and in EX or EX+ condition the Side B, loud and clear, with occasional and barely audible soft crackles and some light clicks here and there, which don’t cause major distraction form the loud and clear sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, this is a great record in this MEGARARE CHILEAN PRESS with UNIQUE COVER, maybe not for strict Minty minds or audiophiles, but for sure with a very nice cover and a record with a nice glossy look, almost immaculate labels and still a very decent and respectable sound quality after about 49 years, which won’t disappoint anyone and will satisfy any serious collector who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean press!!! We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
