Condition : the cover shows just a small and insignificant wear in the front still deserving to be graded MINT- / vinyl has some scuffs and slightest cloudy shades on the first side. The listening reveals some light clicks and a bit of surface noise, EX

GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie il controllo viene effettuato sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i dischi in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati, i 33 giri su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1 mentre gli EP e i singoli a 45 giri con un Thorens TD 166 BC fornito di una testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All records in auction have been fully heard. Lps on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge, EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : Ralph Burns è stato un musicista di grande talento e un arrangiatore di grandissime capacità, basti pensare ai premi Oscar vinti per la migliore orchestrazione: Cabaret nel 1973 e All That Jazz nel 1980. Qui adatta nientepopodimeno che l'immenso Tchaikovsky : impresa solo apparentemente facile. Arrangiare la musica di un balletto del compositore russo ispirato alla favola popolare "La belle au bois dormant" nella versione di Perrault è molto impegnativo perchè richiede una sensibilità musicale che deve relazionarsi sia al lavoro originale che alla cultura popolare degli anni cinquanta nel ventesimo secolo oltre naturalmente, agli orecchi dei bambini che volevano divertirsi. Il risultato finale è sicuramente di grande pregio. Non dimentichiamo, infine, la bellissima canzone "Once upon a Dream", un romantico tema d'amore che 56 anni fa "tous les garçons et les filles de mon âge" avevano ed hanno ancora nel cuore.   

Notes : Ralph Burns was a well-gifted musician and an arranger of extraordinary capabilities, just think about the Academy awards won for Best Scoring Original Song Score or Adaptation Score: Cabaret in 1973 and All That Jazz in 1980. Here he adapts by none other than the greatest Tchaikovsky: an easy seemingly enterprise. To arrange the music of a ballet by Russian composer, inspired by the popular tale "La belle au bois dormant" in the Perrault's version is very challenging because it requires a music sensibility which has to relate to both the original work and the popular culture of the fifties in the twentieth century as well of course, to the ears of children who wanted to have fun. The end result is certainly of high merit. Do not we forget, lastly, the wonderful song "Once Upon a Dream", a romantic love theme that 56 years ago all the boys and girls my age had and still have in the heart.
