There's a lovely side story to this album, so allow us a moment to divulge (and digress). One From The Heart is 12 songs written by the legendary Tom Waits for the Francis Ford Coppola movie of the same name. It took around one year to record in its entirely, with this taking place at Wally Heider's Studio 3, in Hollywood. The facility also happened to employ a woman called Kathleen Brennan, who would eventually become Waits' wife, the pair meeting during the making of this record.

She would go on to be "an incandescent presence on all songs we work on together," to use his phrasing, and the lady who helped usher in a more experimental period in the master song-man's career. As for this album, things are more traditional than much that came after it, a combination of late night bar jazz, main stage balladry, rock 'n' roll and sexy tunes to fall in love with.
