Description
Vivaldi Four Seasons Munchinger UK Decca SXL 2019
This very rare 1958 recording of the Vivaldi "Four Seasons" was one of the first stereo recordings of this work and paved the way for the many which followed. A slower and more elegant performance than is usual today, it was also one of the earliest to use a small(er) orchestra. The performers are Werner Krotzinger on violin with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra conducted by Karl Munchinger. An English stereo pressing on the Decca Label (SXL 2019 stampers 2E/2K), the labels are black with a full frequency stereophonic stereo "fatband" and logo, original recording by… at 10 o’clock and a groove. The record has a barely noticeable greyish pressing irregularity near the beginning of each side but these do not appear to sound. Otherwise the record is of excellent appearance and plays and sounds superb with a minimum of surface noise. The cover has rubbed a little with a few creases.
