Description

Original mono pressing and only release by Vito as a band leader.  Very rare low quantity pressing.  LP is in EX- condition and cover is in EX+ condition.  Cover looks beautiful but has small delamination spot on front top left corner.  The is a 1/3 inch seem split on top and a 3/4 inch seem split on bottom.
A very rare and beautiful copy!

Vito Price is a forgotten name today but his only session as a leader finds the tenorman (who doubled on alto) in excellent form. Five selections showcases his horns with a ten-piece unit that also features pianist Lou Levy while the remaining five selections are with a quintet also including Levy, guitaristFreddie Green, bassist Max Bennett and drummer Gus Johnson. The cool-toned leader swings well and, even if he did not possess a distinctive voice of his own, this enjoyable set (originally on Argo and reissued on CD by Fresh Sound) should greatly interest bop fans.

Rare work from obscure Chicago tenor player Vito Price -- recorded back in the days when there actually used to be a jazz scene in the loop! Price moved to Chicago in the mid 50s, and is typical of the white players in the city who were able to shift between club work and better-paying union gigs for TV and radio stations. The groove here isn't totally hard, but there's some nice moments, with kind of a Basie-esque flair. Titles include "Credo", "Eye Strain", "Swingin The Loop", "Mousey's Tune", and "Duddy"
