Description

Hi there once again eBayers!

Here’s a wonderful opportunity to add to your rare record collection with this Sun Record Company 10”, 78 RPM Single, featuring Rudi Richardson.  The songs are, Fool’s Hall of Fame & Why Should I Cry, released in April 1957.  The release code is SUN 271.

Who was Rudi Richardson?  Richardson was born Rudolph Richardson Riles in Memphis in 1924.  Some other sites refer to him as:

“(He was an) effeminate male singer Rudy Richardson, who usually accompanied himself on piano in the clubs. He was often plugged as "America's only male torch singer."

After a long period working clubs and recording, “he would make one last record, as Rudi Richardson for Sun in Memphis, in April 1957; although Sun 271 shows some effort to update his sound, songs like "Fool's Hall of Fame" are still torch material. Richardson last made a headline in 1958, when just prior to a club date he was found in a Memphis hotel room dead from "alcoholism and an overdose of narcotics.” (CollectorsFrenzy)

The record is in good to very good condition, given its age.  There are some very light marks (finger?) on one side that would probably wipe off.  Otherwise, there are no visible scratches.  The record comes in a yellow paper sleeve and has a plastic cover over that.  Small spindle hole.
