Description
This is a Vintage Soundtrack Album for the film "Take Me Out to the Ballgame", made in 1949, through MGM studios. It featured Frank Sinatra, Esther Williams and Gene Kelly. It was directed by the famous Busby Berkley, and Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen created the story.
The plot was nostalgic and old-fashioned itself: In 1908, guys who do vaudeville in the off-season (Sinatra/Kelly), join a big-league team, [the Chicago Wolves (!)] in the spring, and play for the new owner of the team (Esther Williams). Romantic attachments ensue, as does a crooked gambler sub plot! There is much song and dance, and screw-ball comedy. Otherwise, this film has a bouncy, melodic score, and had generally good critical response when it opened.
This album is from "Curtain Calls", a group that produced the Silver Screen Soundtrack Series, and the Silver Screen Star Series of recordings. These albums were licensed reprints of classic movie musicals; these reprints were done in the 70's onward. Please note that the original movie poster, and film cover, for the 1949 productions were markedly different from what you see above. There was NO ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK ALBUM, but a few of the songs were later cut for duets and solo projects for the various stars.
This LP album is in generally good condition. The shrink wrap is still in position and opened at the slide-out side, there seems to be water(?) damage to the album cover edge on the right. There are very small examples of foxing and corner deformations--but the colors are good, and the obverse of the cover is clean and legible. The vinyl proper is in good condition and without blebs nor apparent scratches. It plays well on a turntable and the central ID patch is clear and consistent.

Our research shows the following: Take Me Out...is the well-known tune by Norworth and Von Tilzer Yes, Indeedy -O'Brien to Ryan...-The Right Girl...-It's Fate...- are all by Roger Edens -- music, and Betty Comden and Adolph Green -- lyrics. Strictly U.S.A.- Roger Edens--music AND lyrics. The Hat My Dear...-Jean Schwartz and William Jerome--music AND lyrics Boys and Girls...-Rogers and Hammerstein--music AND lyrics, originally written for the musical Oklahoma, filmed with Sinatra singing, but cut from the original film. Baby Doll - Sung by Kelly with a dance portion, cut from film. No attribution other than to Gene Kelly's performance. Cut from original film.
