Description
Wow! There's sterile, digital downloads from iTunes, and then there's this: A friggin' WORK OF ART!
From 1959, a promo book of 10 LPs that were never sold but given away free to buyers of a hi-fi who wanted to sample the popular music of the day. The "day" being 1959, imagine Don and betty Draper of MADMEN in their living room culling selections from this. This is not only a bound booklet of LPs, but a very high quality leatherette/clothbound book with the albums in their original art glory--the printing quality actually looks a notch better than the individual releases of the day. There's ESQUIVEL's "Other Worlds Other Sounds," widely considered to be one of the BEST space-age albums covers of all time, then there's another space-age theme: "Destination Moon" by the Ames Brothers, and then we get exotixa, easy listening with the cronner's of the era: Perry Como and Bing Crosby (FUN-FACT: along with George Clooney's aunt, Rosemary), and the rest. This was obviously a younger-demo skewed offering, during the pre-Beatles era. And each page of the album notes has a (pre-Amazon) "If you Like This, You May Like..."-ish offering of other titles of a similar genre.
Various Artists STEREO ??FOR THE JOY OF IT ?"Pop Music Today In The Sound Of Tomorrow." RCA Victor Records # LSP-9301, black "Living Stereo" labels, 1959. Hard to find, excellent condition.
