Dear jazz fans,

I'm offering for sale a unique piece of relatively unknown and nearly forgotten Dutch jazz history, a flexi-disc recorded by legendary Dutch jazz combo The Diamond Five for a company called Velours Doree, manufacturer of curtains.

Here's the story:  In 2007 a friend and I, being huge Diamond Five fans, urged the Universal record company to reissue the Diamond Five lp "Brilliant". The LP had been reissued in Japan but we wanted to see a reissue for Europe as well and luckily Universal complied.

During this time we had quite a few talks with the (then) surviving members of the Diamond Five, John Engels, Cees Slinger and Jacques Schols. We talked a lot about the old days, places they played and recordings they made. In one of these conversations Jacques Schols mentioned that beside the flexi disc that they recorded for the Puch company (the one that has "Sister Sadie" on it) they also recorded a flexi disc for another company. Jacques thought it might have been for a company that made wallpaper but no one could remember it exactly.

Because we had already unearthed some other unreleased Diamond Five material that we planned on releasing on a compilation we thought it would be fantastic to try and include this unknown flexi with the other material as well. This led to a frantic search on our part to try and find this mysterious flexi disc. We asked several serious collectors if they knew anything about it but no one we spoke to had ever heard of this recording. We searched for this disc on the internet, in lots of shops and on even more flea markets and worked our way through an enormous amount of completely unlistenable advertisements until one day I came across this flexi disc. I put the needle on it and when the music started I immediately knew, this was the one!

We took it to John, Cees and Jacques who were thrilled to see and hear it after all these years and they confirmed that it was actually the one that they had recorded.

We were very happy too because now we could include it on the compilation called "Montmartre Blues" that was released on the Sonorama label in 2010. The cd contains previously unreleased radio recordings by the Diamond Five as well as the music from a 78 RPM and obviously this flexi disc. The cd is still available and if you search for "Diamond Five Montmartre Blues" on the internet there are several sites where you can listen to some sound clips.

The copy that I am offering here is the actual copy that was used for the cd mastering. I don't have to tell you how rare this flexi is because it is, to the best of my knowledge, the only known copy.

I will include a cdr copy of the Montmartre Blues cd for the winner.

So now for the details:
