Velvet Underground: White Light / White Heat LP, Vinyl, MGM, 1969
White Light/White Heat is the second studio album by American rock band the Velvet Underground. Released on January 30, 1968, on Verve Records, it was the band's last studio recording with multi-instrumentalist and founding member John Cale.
The Velvet Underground was an American rock band formed in New York City in 1964. It originally comprised singer and guitarist Lou Reed, Welsh multi-instrumentalist John Cale, guitarist Sterling Morrison, and drummer Angus MacLise. MacLise was replaced by Moe Tucker in 1965, who played on most of the band's recordings. Though their integration of rock and the avant-garde achieved little commercial success, they became one of the most influential bands in rock, underground, experimental, and alternative music. Their provocative subject matter, musical experiments, and nihilistic attitude was also instrumental in the development of punk rock, new wave and several other genres.
Consciously anti-beauty, loud, abrasive, chilling-the perfect antidote to their world. It foreshadowed the start of punk and the no wave genre.
This is the UK Repress release by Verve Records, from 1969. This variant has a front glossy, laminated sleeve with visible skull tattoo and has 'stereo' printed in silver text top right. The "flaps folded" on the back cover. "File under POPULAR : Pop Groups" is on top right of the back cover. Also has "Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Patents Pending S/VLP 9201" on bottom right.
Side 1, track 4 is listed as "Here She Comes Now". While Lou Reed is named with the "guitar" credit.
It does not have "Sold in the U.K. subject to resale price conditions" text on labels, which suggests manufacture after July 1969.

This record has been kept in storage in a smoke free household. It is from a large record collection, not a DJ collection, this record has never been DJed and is in generally good condition.
On Side 1, there is audible surface noise and heavy crackles in the run in the 1st track. This low surface noise lasts for about 39 seconds until it gradually disperses. After which which there are occasional crackles during the reminder of 'White Light'. Between tracks 1 and 2, there are a few light crackles. With the first chords of 'The Gift', 2nd track there are crackles in the background. Between tracks 2 and 3, there is a small pop. Then between tracks 3 and 4, there are light crackles and one little pop. Finally at around 1.04 minutes of track 4, 'Here She Comes'; there is a crackle.
Turn it over to Side 2, there is low audible surface noise and heavy crackles in the run in the 1st track. This low surface noise lasts for about 51 seconds until it gradually evaporates. After which which there are occasional crackles during the reminder of 'I Heard Her Came My Name'. Between tracks 1 and 2, there are a few crackles.. As 'Sister Ray' plays, the odd crackles can be heard murmuring in the background, but the behemoth rolls on.
Although both run ins have varying levels of audible surface noise and there are several other crackles on this LP. This piece of history plays and sounds pretty damn fine.
There is slight foxing and wear to the picture record sleeve, from age and being in storage. On the glossy front cover, to the top right of the skull tattoo, there is a small dent into the paper sleeve (see pictures). Additionally, the original plain paper sleeve is torn in places and is in poor condition (see pictures). So I will be including another plain white record sleeve as part of this record.
