Description
You are bidding on an early US pressing copy of the Velvet Underground - White Light White Heat LP released by Verve Records. This is V6-5046. In the dead wax on side 1 it is inscribed: V6-5046 side 1 MGS-1258 and on side 2 it is inscribed: V6-5046 side 2 MGS-1259. This is yet another interesting early variation of this album. The cover does not have the skull on the front, but it does have some of the other notable demarcations of an early pressing, such as the misspelling of Here She Comes Now as There She Comes Now on the jacket, the cover concept credit to Andy Warhol, and the Three Prong Music BMI credits on all tracks on the record labels. On the spine of the jacket it reads in this order from top to bottom: V6-5046 White Light/White Heat Verve. Blue with silver print Verve labels. This record came out of the collection of a central Texas music fan, known to many musicians/fellow music lovers, who tragically lost his life late last year. He frequently attended concerts and shows here in central Texas and elsewhere. He enjoyed meeting musicians and liked to get their autographs, such as this record. It has been signed by John Cale! He signed the record on the back of the jacket (see picture). His signature was signed in black pen. The record is in VG+ condition. The record labels are in VG condition. The record jacket is in poor condition, only in G+ condition, with some shelfwear, ringwear, and edgewear. There is a 9 inch seam split on the bottom seam of the jacket starting at the mouth, and a 8 inch seam split on the top seam, also starting at the mouth. There is also some creasing on the front of the jacket along the edges and in the center of the jacket as well. The back of the jacket, where John Cale's signature is, still looks fine and fairly clean despite all the other issues with the jacket. Included in this auction is a small handbill flyer we found inside the jacket for John Cale's show at Liberty Lunch here in Austin, Texas on March 31st (year unknown) with David Morrison as the opener. We visually grade all our records for sale and grade both the record and the jacket. We go by general standards for grading, which are:
Mint (M) - an unplayed, new copy of a record. no visual defects!
Near Mint (NM) - a nearly perfect record that has usually only been played 1-3 times, in "like new" condition.
Very Good + (VG+) - record still in excellent condition but has minor signs of wear such as surface scuffs/light scratches that don't affect the play. jacket has minor signs of wear such as light ringwear, edgewear, shelfwear, and/or light creasing.
Very Good (VG) - record has more wear than VG+ and may have some slight surface noise, light pops, some scuffs or scratches. generally still a great playing copy. jacket may have more wear, writing, sticker residue, punch out/cut out holes or corners.
Very Good - (VG-) - record has noticeable groove wear, surface noise, scratches, and/or scuffs but still a decent playing copy. jacket has heavier wear and may have a small split seam.
Good + and Good (G+ and G) - record still plays without skipping but has considerable amounts of groove wear, surface noise, scuffs, and/or scratches. jacket has alot of wear and some defects such as split seams, heavy creasing, writing, marks, sticker residue, etc...
