Various 7” Singles by The Specials & The Bodysnatchers
The Specials
Do Nothing/Maggie’s Farm
Cover picture sleeve slightly worn and dog-eared – but not bad at all. Vinyl has only one noticeable scratch on the b-side, but should not impair listening pleasure.
Ghost Town/Why?/Friday Night Saturday Morning
Cover picture sleeve is in good physical condition apart from a very small area where the factory plastic wrapping has ‘bubbled’ on the front and there are a few small stains on the back (nothing major). Bearing in mind its aged and how much it’s been loved over the years, it’s in good condition.
The vinyl has several light scratches, none which should impair listening enjoyment – there is one on the b-side that is more noticeable, but it still looks light to me and should not have damaged the groove in any way.
Gangsters/The Selecter – The Selecter (x2)
No cover picture, in fact this comes in a plain Stiff Records sleeve and has a paper label. To be honest, the vinyl is way past its prime but with some TLC would look and sound gorgeous. The second copy is almost the complete opposite – pristine, with a few very light scratches.
Stereotype/International Jet Set
The sleeve and label are the only niggly things here. The sleeve is a ‘plain’ 2-Tone one (with the 2-Tone man). It’s yellowed over the years (as have all the rest of the 2-Tone sleeves here – as are the creases consummate with age, like all of us I suppose...). There has been a rip, that has been mended.
The label is a paper one and on the a-side, there is a highly visible tear (like someone has tried to rip the label off, and failed... not that I think that is what happened). The black squares from the design have been lovingly drawn in, with complete disregard to its saleable value in the future.
All that said, the vinyl is in great condition, with only very, very few light scratches to impair it’s visual beauty.
Rude Boys Outta Jail/Rat Race (double A-side)
The sleeve is as described before and someone in the dark, dank, distant past has written a few words on it.
The vinyl has several light scratches on it and a few more visible ones. I think this is still playable without any issues but could not 100% guarantee total aural perfection.
Too Much Too Young/Guns of Navarone/Longshot Kick the Bucket/Liquidator/Skinhead Moonstomp
“The Special AKA Live! EP”
Front of picture cover is fine, I would give it 9.9 out of 10. The back is a little more obviously aged; there are a couple of stains and loosening of the glue that sticks it all together, but very forgivable bearing in mind its age. The vinyl has a few light scratches, but again, will play absolutely fine.
There is also another copy of this. The cover is a little bit more worn/creased, and the vinyl has only a few scratches... not what I would call “light” as compared to all the other records, but light enough not to interfere with the sound quality I would say.
Too Much Too Young/Skinhead Moonstomp
Comes in a plain white (yellowed) sleeve. It is the silver label has that juke-box hole (but has the attachment too, if you need it!). The vinyl has a lot of scratches on it; none too heavy and most are light, but I can’t lie to you, they’re not all light. Should still be playable though, especially after some TLC.
A Message to You Rudy/Nite Klub (Spanish release)
As with all white things I’ve come across in my attic, this cover has yellowed over the years, sadly. There are a (very) few light stains on the cover as well, but only if you’re really looking. The cover has been creased around the shape of the vinyl a little too. Dinked.
(Neville Staples aka Judge Roughneck) Rude Boys Outta Jail/(Roddy Radiation & The Specials) Braggin’ and Tryin’ Not to Lie
Paper label. No picture cover. Rare probably, as it says “free single, not for sale” – so this is definitely one for the ultimate Specials fan. I’ve looked closely at this and can only see one scratch. Not a particularly light one, but it’s there and it’s alone. That’s all the good stuff. Sadly it is cracked from the edge inwards to just under 1cm. I would imagine you could still play it though, but that for a quarter of the track you might hear that crack.
Nelson Mandela
Cover in great condition apart from a rip... (as if peeled) area of about 1x2cm on the top of the back of the sleeve. Vinyl is in near perfect condition – just a very few light scratches are evident that this was ever played.
The Bodysnatchers
Let’s Do Rock Steady/Ruder Than You (double A-side)
Silver label. Cutting straight to it – this is cracked from the edge to the label. Other than that, it’s practically flawless – honest.
Let’s Do Rock Steady/Ruder Than You (double A-side)
Paper label, and crack free... there are, however, several very, very light scratches (only really visible if you have 20-20 vision), so this should play like a dream.
