!!!The earliest UK album by VGG does not often surface these days on the Pink Scroll label. Up for auction is a sensational EX++ vinyl, which many sellers would grade as NM. Well, the replay, the audio is most definitely in NM territory!!! As many of you will know, I am very critical in grading and I want to get it spot on. Under an intnse light angled at 45 degrees two small wispy hairlines can be seen, these are invisible in normal daylight. From here on it only gets better. The labels are the ROUGH TEXTURED first press variety, impossible to find as most will have smooth labels!!! This is something special!! Read on....
Sensational sound quality, NO skips or jumps. NO clicks, NO background noises, this is really a stunning heavy vinyl with a beautiful deep gloss. This vinyl has hardly been played!!! A definite EX++!!! So much better than the CD version producing a depth and channelling that is totally lost on the CD format!! Inspected under an intense lightsource and angled.
I have played this in FULL> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! I first played for a general listen and a second time for a more in-depth observation. I am very glad to say that there are not any jumps or skips. Unbelievably as it may sound there is not any background noise at all!!! Very remarkable for this 1970 vinyl!!! Great songcraft on this first UK album by Peter Hammill and friends, no wonder this album is now so sought after. Listening to the opening "Darkness(11/11)" at the moment, .... INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL!! This is a topdrawer album. I have played this on my Technics turntable with a Linn cartridge and through my very revealing B&W three way speakers!!!
Vinyl: EX++, it is not often that I would use this grade. This copy is as close to a final upgrade you can possibly get. Tremendously beautiful channelling and this blows any CD or re-issue out of the water!!! This was such an engaging listen that I could not resist to do a second spin of the full album. Well, sometimes you just have to put time pressure aside and ........... ENJOY!!!
Sleeve: VG++. Matt gatefold sleeve. "Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse LTD. Patents pending". Very vulnerable like e.g. the King Crimson "In the Court ..." sleeve as well. Prone to extensive wear. But this has held up well. First of all, this sleeve has NO creases. There is NO writing and there are not any tears. There is, however, an area of sticker tear to the left top front (see picture). This has been filled in by a local artist but is still slightly visible, hence the VG++ grading. The inside gatefold is magnificent, approaching NM, without even any yellowing!!! All edges are sharp and crisp WITHOUT WEAR!!! The spine is deadstraight with minimal wear. Tiny mini corner "bumps". NO writing or doodling. NO tears or rips and no large creases. Very minor ring impression to the back. The spine is fully legible. A great sleeve overall!!!
This is a unique investment opportunity!!! There are very many VGG/Hammill collectors around the world, but not that many albums to go by as they did not sell anywhere near the quantities like e.g. Pink Floyd or Yes sold. This first UK album especially was only sold in the low thousands (estimated between 2000 and 3000 at the very most).
Labels: EX+ with light spindle marks. The ROUGH TEXTURED variety, rarer by FAR than the smooth labels!!!
Important : International Postage. If over GBP 41.00, this will be sent via Signed For service. In this case please wait for my invoice.
