Description
This is a collection of ten (10) The 49th State Hawaii Record Co. 78 rpm records circa 1954. There are also approximately 18 “worn” pages of typewritten words and instructions of hula movements for various songs. I will include the rather tattered record dust covers, as they may have some historic value. All the records were recorded in Hawaii and are labeled “Tropicflex Non-Breakable under normal use). Some of the records have a few scratches and probably need a good cleaning by someone who knows how. I don’t have a turntable that plays 78 rpms, so I don’t know how they sound. With the new technology, though, someone could probably “clean up” any of the imperfections coming through.
Some of these may be rare recordings. For those who don’t know, Hawaii was still a Territory of the U.S. and actually ended up becoming the 50th state August 21, 1959.
I lived in Oahu, Hawaii in the early 1950’s as a young teenager and took hula lessons from Kuulei Clark in Pearl City, Oahu in a big Quonset hut. The hula movement instructions were provided by her. A group of 4 of us girls (me being the only haole) even appeared on TV on the Lucky Luck Show in
