Vince Guaraldi attended Lincoln High School and then studied at San Francisco State College . During his college years, he appeared in clubs such as the Black Hawk and Jackson's Nook. B. with the Chubby Jackson / Bill Harris band or Sonny Criss . He also played at smaller events such as B. Weddings. His first record was made in 1951; he contributed to the 1953 album The Cal Tjader Trio ( Fantasy ). In 1955 he formed his first own trio with his long-time friend Eddie Duran on guitar and Dean Reilly on bass. This was followed by appearances in the hungry i club in North Beach , where his special piano style became a major attraction. The "Guaraldi Sound" was born. In this line-up, the trio recorded two records: Vince Guaraldi Trio (1956) and A Flower Is a Lonesome Thing (1957). In 1956, Guaraldi toured with Woody Herman's band Thundering Herd when he replaced Nat Pierce on piano for one season.
Inspired by the French-Portuguese film Orfeu Negro (1959), he recorded his interpretation of the film music by the legendary Brazilian composer Antônio Carlos Jobim in 1962 under the name Jazz Impression of Black Orpheus . The song " Samba de Orpheus " was released as the first single from the album. In search of a suitable B-side, Guaraldi's producers ended up with a revised version of their own composition " Cast Your Fate to the Wind ", which was a great success and even won the Grammy for "Best Instrumental Jazz Composition" in 1963 . In 1964 he continued his Bossa Nova - Adaptations continued with the guitarist Bola Sete . Guaraldis biggest success resulted from his music for the TV - Comic telecast A Charlie Brown Christmas in 1965. Until his death, he provided the music to all other previously produced Peanuts -TV episodes.
Vince Guaraldi died of a heart attack in 1976 at the age of 47 while waiting for his appearance in a motel room between two sets at Butterfield's nightclub in Menlo Park . - Wikipedia
