Description
I recently found this excellent and scarce vintage funk 45 “two-sider” at an estate sale, where the lady’s first husband had worked for a local Washington, D.C. area radio station many years ago. There were very few 45 singles, however this one was still in its original mailing envelope from SunCoast Artists, Tampa, Florida, with a letter asking the station to play this record by THE OUTLAW GANG.
Both sides are killer funk tracks. Titles are “FUNKY FAST BUMP” and “WEED HOPPER.” I included sound clips of both tunes so you can judge for yourself.
The “A” side – Funky Fast Bump – is near mint, appears unplayed.
The “B” side – Weed Hopper – would grade near mint except for a couple tiny marks at the beginning of the track which appear to have been acquired in storage. You will hear several minor tics during the first 20 seconds of the side, following which the remainder of the track plays NM.
I had not heard of this artist/group or label before, and could not find any reference in the Manship guides. Label is green with black print. The “B” side is stamped “Promotional Copy – Not For Sale” in red ink (see scan photos).
Catalog number is L-2721.
