First Pressing, UK, September, 1969 by Island Records - ILPS 9105
EXTREMELY RARE NICK DRAKE LP
Produced by Joe Boyd with excellent sound engineering by John Wood. All songs written and performed by Nick Drake, vocals and guitar. Other artists include Danny Thompson, bass, and Richard Thompson, whose scintillating guitar blazes on track 1/1, “Time has Told Me”. The album features beautiful arrangements for chamber instruments by Robert Kirby on four tracks, and a gorgeous cello solo by Claire Lowther on the haunting “Cello Song.” This recording, along with Drake’s other two were considered commercial flops.
Of particular note in this pressing:
· Released on a pink Island label with black ''block'' logo, in a fold-out cover , marked ''Printed & Made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd.''
· A mistake on the track order: 'Day Is Done' & 'Way To Blue' track listing is reversed on first cover and also label. Label is corrected on subsequent pressings. Album actually plays 'Way to Blue' followed by 'Day is Done'.
I am selling this rare LP for a friend, the original owner. Item located in Altadena, CA. Please note – This record is being sold as is. We are not rare LP collectors or dealers. My friend loved her vinyl recordings from the 60's and 70's which she purchased for the most part when new and played and stored carefully. The vinyl is in excellent condition, no hisses, cracks, pops or discernible scratches when played on her vintage record player.
Based on Record Collector Magazine’s rating guide, it easily fits the criteria for “Excellent” condition, and one could make a good case for “Near Mint”. Again, when played on a vintage record player and not a professional system.
The jacket is in good condition, with a white mark in the upper left corner as shown in the photos (a small section of the top printed layer in green was removed when a sticker was peeled off, showing some of the white under layer.)
