Description
Here's a truly RARE version of one of Rock's classic albums: THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO, from 1966, produced and with artwork by ANDY WARHOL. This is the rare first MONO edition on the blue VERVE label V-5008. And - even better! - this is the version with the "Torso back cover" intact and present! Only few copies of the album are available on the collector's market like this, and here is why:
When the album was first issued, the main back cover photo (taken at an Exploding Plastic Inevitable performance) featured an image of actor Eric Emerson projected upside-down on the wall behind the band. Emerson threatened to sue over this unauthorized use of his image, unless he was paid. Rather than complying, the distributor MGM recalled copies of the album and halted its distribution until Emerson's image could be airbrushed from the photo on subsequent pressings.
This scarce copy is in great shape for it's age. The Banana on front is still intact and there is only slight wear to the original cardboard cover. The record has only few signs of having been played, some superficial scratches, but nothing serious. Overall, I would grade both cover and record as VG+(+) and VG +.
