Ultra rare copy of The Velvet Underground & Nico very early 1st Mono East Coast, MGM Record Manufacturing Division, Bloomfield, New Jersey pressing, with an unpeeled classic Andy Warhol's banana sticker and 1st state uncensored gatefold cover. This is a so-called "Torso" cover with an image of a dancer and actor Eric Emerson, who starred in Andy Warhol's movies and was a protagonist of some multimedia films projected behind the band during one of the Exploding Plastic Inevitable (EPI) events, organized by Andy Warhol between 1966 and 1967. After the album was released, Emerson, dissatisfied with the fact that his image was used on the album's back cover without his permission, threatened to file a lawsuit against the record label, if his image wasn't removed from the cover. As a result of the compromise, the album was suddenly withdrawn between March and April 1967 and was then redistributed with the image of Emerson being covered with a large black sticker on the copies that contained the image, and was then airbrushed on all of the subsequent pressings. This copy is the earliest 1st Mono pressing and one among a few uncensored copies with a fully visible Emerson's image on the back cover without the black sticker. Andy Warhol's banana sticker remains unpeeled and has been preserved beautifully thanks to the original distributor "Record Rack HI-FI" baggy with a yellow price "List Price $3.98 Our Price …" seal and blue "Sealed For Your Protection" banner, along with a small price tag. The East Coast Mono V-5008 labels contain a 1.25’ pressing ring. Very early 1st print East Coast labels with Side 2, containing a misprint of the timing for
-“I’ll Be Your Mirror," indicating 2:01 as oppose to the correct one 2:10
The full matrix numbers are as follows: Side 1 - V5008 SIDE I MG558REV 1C Block-looking S / Side 2 -V5008 SIDE 2 MG559 1 1. The block-looking S symbol identifies the pressing as the very first 1st East Coast, MGM Record Manufacturing Division, Bloomfield, New Jersey pressing. The album comes with an original Verve Records paper inner sleeve with the photos of Verve’s Jazz musicians.
CONDITION:
COVER: EXCELLENT MINUS (EX-) (GATEFOLD INTERIOR: NEAR MINT MINUS (NM-) Beautiful clean shiny cover without any ring wear or writing. It's impossible to find a Mono cover in such a clean beautiful condition, especially considering that the majority of these covers have a severe ring wear, scuffing, wear, splits, writing, missing pieces and soiling. The "Torso" back cover has preserved a vivid "Torso" image along with the photos of band members along the bottom edge. The gatefold interior is super clean and in Near Mint Minus condition, containing a fully intact paste over slick, which doesn't have any missing pieces or tears, even at the mouth area. Andy Warhol's banana sticker is in beautiful condition without having any tears or missing pieces, only containing some light wear at the top and bottom. The spine is rigid, but contains some light wear at the center along with the corners. The distributor baggy is opened at the spine of the cover and is in great condition without any splits or tears.
VINYL: VERY GOOD (VG) The vinyl contains some light surface hairlines, marks and scuffs from the inner sleeve.
LABELS: EXCELLENT MINUS (EX-) ~ VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS (VG++) The labels are clean, but have a minor amount of light scuffing and spindle wear.
VERVE RECORDS INNER SLEEVE: EXCELLENT (EX) The inner sleeve is in Near Mint condition without having any splits, but I've graded it as Excellent as it has a punch hole at the bottom right corner.

POLICY:
Realizing how important it is to secure the safety of the item you've paid your money for, I'll put my best effort into packing the records as best as possible, triple boxing them into the specialized professional boxes, with the two outer boxes having a special construction with extended cardboard on the edges to prevent the record covers' corners from getting damaged during the transit, and will also put the vinyl outside of the cover (of course, unless it's a sealed record) to prevent the splitting. I always try responding to the messages, but please, before sending me a message, make sure that the answer to your question isn't included in the description. I'll use my right to block a buyer, who doesn't correspond to my idea of politeness, culture and respect toward each other. If you want to participate in my auction, please be honest and positive, and I'll be mutual with you. I'll remove the bids of a buyer with zero rating, unless he contacts me prior to placing a bid.
