Description
This is a fine copy from a c. 1974 U.S. repressing of the fourth LP, and last with Lou Reed, by the Velvet Underground, originally released in 1970. The LP is often frowned upon by devotees of the group's groundbreaking earlier work. It's true that it is a more mainstream affair, lacking the former edginess, but taken on its own terms, it's a fine record. Both "Sweet Jane" and "Rock & Roll" have an anthemic quality to them, and the two side ending tracks, "New Age" and "Oh! Sweet Nuthin'," ache with compassion. If the other tracks aren't up to this level, all of them are well crafted rock songs. This copy has the 1841 Broadway address on the disc labels, but a later brown label inner sleeve with the 75 Rockefeller address on it (see photos). Discogs lists a variation essentially the same as this one, indicating that the labels were leftovers, and dating it to "at earliest 1974, [and] possibly later." The jacket is close to M- with light corner creasing and slight curvature from storage (EX+). The disc is clean with some light scrapes and dings, and plays with occasional light surface noise (EX+). As noted, the record comes with the original label inner sleeve.
I’m in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs except where otherwise noted.
