General Information
These two 12-inch vinyl LPrecords feature live performances of this iconic band prior to their breakupand the launch of Lou Reed’s sole career. The recordings were made during atour of small clubs across the U.S. The high-fidelity stereo sound quality ofthis outstanding release is sure to impress any music lover that savors themusic from the Velvet Underground during this time period. This outstanding two-recordset was released by Mercury Records in 1974 and it was manufactured anddistributed in the USA by Phonogram, Inc. This 1st pressing variant includes aset of red labels with seven red oval “Mercury” logos along the top and smaller “Philips”,“Mercury”, and “Vertigo” logos at the bottom, as well as the numerals “0798” onthe album cover spine. The catalog number is SRM-2-7504. The matrix code etchedin the runout groove on Record 1/Side A is “R204523A” with “SRM-2-7504-A” and “R204523-A-1”on the label. The matrix code etched in the runout groove on Record 1/Side B is“R204523B” with “SRM-2-7504-B” and “R204523-B-1” on the label. The matrix codeetched in the runout groove on Record 2/Side C is “R204523C” with “SRM-2-7504-C”and “R204523-C-2” on the label. The matrix code etched in the runout groove on Record2/Side D is “R204523D” with “SRM-2-7504-D” and “R204523-D-2” on the label. Thenames of the songs for each side can be found in the photos. The location ofthe performances (uncredited on this release) include: A1, B2, C2, D5 &intro D1: End of Cole Ave, Dallas, Texas, October 19, 1969; and, A2-B1, B3-C1,C3-D4: The Matrix, San Francisco, California, November 1969. This particularrelease includes an inside gatefold photo of the band. However, John Cale isshown and he did not play on this recording since he had recently left the bandand was replaced by Doug Yule. In addition, the faces of Sterling Morrison andMaureen Tucker are edited to partially obscure them. The album has always beenstored in a smoke-free home and will be shipped through USPS Media Mail.
Condition Details
The vinyl for both recordsis made of durable material and has been graded as Good Plus (G+) to Very Good(VG), thereby ensuring that it will play well for years to come. Both recordswere played immediately prior to creating this listing and there are no skips. Overall,the sound quality of the majority of both records is excellent. However, thediscs have visible scratch and scuff defects, some of which may occasionallyprovide for minor pops and ticks during playback. However, the overall soundquality is still quite good. In addition, the labels have little indications of wear, with nospindle marks, and all are clean and fully legible. The original plain white innersleeves are fully intact and graded at VG, where there is some minorage-related yellowing and minor wrinkling with no seam tears. The original gatefoldalbum cover is graded as G to G+ due to visible ring wear and other visible wear and damage. Thereis also some minor wear on the top and bottom edges, the spine, and the corners.In addition, there is some water damage on the front cover at the lower right-handside corner by the opening. Also, there is some water damage on the back coverlower left-hand side corner by the opening. Further, there is some damage tothe back cover at the upper right-hand corner. The interior gatefold photo hasmaintained most of the glossy sheen with the exception of some ring wear. Theouter sleeve is new.
