About Vault 31 -
This time last year we were gearing up for the release ofMargo Price's debut album Midwest Farmer's Daughter. This was astraight-out-of-Nashville record we loved from first listen, and we are beyondthrilled that the release has led to many others discovering this singular andenigmatic artist and coming to love her as much as we do. Margo Price and herband The Pricetags had a banner year full of accolades, television appearances, incendiary live shows, and tons of good times. We'd like to celebrate thesuccess of this cherished member of the Third Man family with the announcementof our latest Vault Package, all in honor of Margo Price, with the package inall its glory arriving on your doorstep right around the one year anniversaryof the Midwest Farmer's Daughter release.
Margo Price Live at The Hamilton, Washington DC 11-9-2016
Margo and her band rolled into our nation’s capital afterseven hours on the road on November 8 — election day — and spent the night inthe up-for-grabs city as the results came in and anxieties rose across thecountry. The very next evening they played one of the most poignant andsignificant shows of the tour and quite possibly of their careers. As luckwould have it, the tape was rolling. The set is a great mix of album tracks, live, road-tested favorites, and a batch of classic country covers from RodneyCrowell, Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, and Billy Joe Shaver. Third ManRecords is beyond proud to present this serendipitous landmark live show with avellum optical sleeve on double 180-gram vinyl — one green and one white.
Set List:
Hands of Time / Black Rose (Billy Joe Shaver cover) /Tennessee Song / Paper Cowboy / Yeah You’re Right / Desperate and Depressed /Weekender / Red Bandana (Merle Haggard cover) / Me And Bobby McGee (KrisKristofferson cover) / Four Years of Chances / Ain’t Living Long Like This(Rodney Crowell)
Margo Price - Blue Room Sessions 7"
When we first asked Margo to come by Third Man Records tosay hello and talk about her music and the album she had just recorded at SunStudios in Memphis, we happened to be hosting open-to-the-public recordingsessions on our 1955 Scully Lathe all day in the Blue Room fordirect-to-acetate recordings (Third Man Recording Service). No record label intheir right mind with an engineer behind the glass and a voice like Margo’s infront of it would let an opportunity like this pass them by, so we asked if shewanted to cut a tune. What she delivered was a tear-inducing solo version of“Desperate & Depressed” which was later re-recorded as the B Side for herfirst single from last year, “Hurtin’ on the Bottle.” It was powerful and itwas fearless and this was the pivotal moment we knew we were hooked on Margofor good.
In a nod to that first meeting with her (a truly legendaryday for us, for anyone interested in Third Man lore), we invited Margo down toplay two new songs live in the Blue Room, cut direct-to-acetate on our fabledlathe. Here we present the third in our series of Blue Room Sessions (previousentries include Cat Stevens and Coupler) and the first as a Vault-exclusive.The A-side features a new, never-before-recorded, original composition titled"You Told Me With Your Eyes," followed by anothernever-previously-recorded (by Margo that is...) cover of Billy Grammer'sclassic leaving tune "Gotta Travel On" on blue vinyl.
Margo Price Live at Austin City Limits DVD
Another landmark moment for Margo this year was herfirst-ever Austin City Limits taping, which premieres January 21 on PBS. Thegood people from ACL have been kind enough to allow us to release this DVD ofher performance featuring the entire show, and perhaps a few surprises... staytuned.
Skull Collar Pin
For our first bonus item, perhaps the the most outlaw pieceof wearable art we’ve ever created: a ¾”white and gold enamel collar pin with a gold-tone chain for wear across yourtop button or on your lapel. The skull image is inspired by a tattoo Margosports on her left leg and guarantees its wearer instant cowboy credibility.
2017 Challenge Coin
Bonus item part two of two in Vault #31 is our second annualissuing of the Third Man Records Challenge Coin. Usually used as totems tosignify membership in a military organization, challenge coins are slowlymaking their way into other realms of culture. The Third Man Records 2017Challenge Coin will entitle its bearer (like the 2016 version) to 10% offpurchases in our Detroit or Nashville storefronts for the duration of thisyear. It will also double as a large hole 45 adapter. (And, if you want to“challenge” your Vault member friends to see who’s holding theirs with anyempty-handed folks buying the next round of drinks… well that’s just the kindof camaraderie we hope to continue to foster amongst our most loyal anddie-hard fans.) Vault package #31 is the ONLY way to get this coin… it will notbe issued individually or in future packages.
