To mark the 100th year of The Grand Ole Opry, fans were asked to vote for what they considered to be the best Country songs to create a list of 100. From there, 20 of those songs were picked to provide a snapshot of The Opry's legacy; as such it's worth noting that the 100 in the title refers to age, not quantity. The songs on this compilation are all recorded on the Opry stage, and each of them possesses an electricity that is palpable. There's no bootleg quality here whatsoever, each song is lovingly recorded and mixed, whilst the presence of the audience gives each performance a distinctive edge. History seems to drip from every note on this collection, whether it be in the shape of the performer's legacy, the cultural significance of the song, or the lyrical content. So Patsy Cline's Crazy rubs shoulders with an appropriately fiery Johnny Cash ('Ring Of Fire'). Dolly Parton's 'I Will Always Love You', a song which charted twice for Dolly Parton and would eventually define 1992 with Whitney Houston, is a particular highlight and drips with genuine emotion. 'Coal Miner's Daughter' is introduced as being one of the finest Country songs written in a long time, and Loretta Lynn's performance goes on to prove just that, with its depiction of living in poverty during the Great Depression. Two songs on the collection are given a "Full Circle Mix" where two performances from across the years are mixed together. 'El Paso' combines Marty Robins and Marty Stuart and it is almost impossible to discern the 43 years between their performances. Perhaps the most poignant moment comes with 'He Stopped Loving Her Today,' which takes a 1993 George Jones performance and combines it with the 2013 Alan Jackson version, which was recorded at Jones' funeral at the Opry.
