"Wheel of Fortune" is a popular song written by Bennie Benjamin and George David Weiss and published in 1951. It is best remembered in the 1952 hit version by Kay Starr.

The song was originally recorded in 1951, for RCA by Johnny Hartman, and about the same time for Crescendo Records by Al Costello with the Walter Scott Orchestra.[1][2] Several hit versions of "Wheel of Fortune" were released in 1952. The first chart hit was by the Eddie Wilcox Orchestra featuring Sunny Gale, whose version reached number 2 on the R&B chart and number 13 on the pop chart. The most successful version was by Kay Starr, whose recording reached number 1 in the US pop chart in March 1952, staying there for ten weeks. Other hit versions in 1952 came from Dinah Washington (number 3, R&B), Bobby Wayne (number 6, pop), The Cardinals (number 6, R&B), and The Bell Sisters (number 10, pop).[3][4]

The song was also used as the theme to the television series Wheel of Fortune.

"The Blacksmith Blues" is a song which was written for Ella Mae Morse by Jack Holmes. The recording reached #3 on the Billboard chart when it was released in 1952, and sold over a million copies.[1] Recordings were later made by Bing Crosby, the John Barry Seven, and others.[2] Harry James released a recording on Columbia 39671 with Toni Harper on vocals.

"A Guy Is a Guy" is a popular song written by Oscar Brand. It was published in 1952.

The song is reputed to have originated in a British song, "I Went to the Alehouse (A Knave Is a Knave)," dating from 1719. During World War II, soldiers sang a bawdy song based on "A Knave Is a Knave," entitled "A Gob Is a Slob," and it is widely claimed that Oscar Brand cleaned up the lyrics and wrote this song based on it. However, no proof has been established that this is so.

The best-known version of the song, recorded by Doris Day, charted in 1952. It was recorded on February 7, 1952, and released by Columbia Records as catalog number 39673. The song quotes Wagner's "Bridal Chorus" and Mendelssohn's "Wedding March", both played on a pipe organ. The flip side was "Who Who Who". The song first entered the Billboard Best-Selling Records chart on March 7, 1952, and lasted 19 weeks, peaking at #4 on the chart.[1] (According to some sources,[2] the song reached #1 on the chart "Most Played in Juke Box".)

The song was also recorded by Ella Fitzgerald in 1951, and by Australian singer June Miller, with Les Welch and his orchestra, in May 1952, although Doris Day's version was actually #1 on the Australian charts.

Yvette Giraud recorded a French version called “Un homme est un homme”.

Mimi Martel was an American singer, active from 1949 to 1955[1]. During this time, Martel produced more than 50 singles paired with several backing bands, including The Four Rhythmaires, The Toppers, Lew Raymond, Nat Charles and His Orchestra, and the Les Morgan Orchestra.[2][3] Most of her recordings were cover version of hits by such singers as Kay Starr, Rosemary Clooney and Patti Page, released on the budget Tops Records label[4]. She was able to emulate all of their various styles, including Page's popular multiple voice technique. By 1956, Martel had moved from singing into television.
