Description
Artist: Various Artists Title: A Night At The Flicks Label: No Rip Off Records Cat No: 003 Year: 1985 Country: UK
On offer here is the very rare UK Album by "Various Artists" called "A Night at the Flicks" on `No Rip Off` label - Run out/Matrix side 1 YAW 3A/ side 2 YAW 3B
Rarity:- Very Rare,16 bands recorded over 6 weeks in the basement at Flick Studios, the LP`s were stored in a rear office which flooded leaving only the 300 already distributed still obtainable!!
Music: A combination of Prog/Psych/Garage Punk/Mod Rock, highlights being Arabia`s Prog Rock observation of TV Addicts called `Watch and Believe it`, the Dynamic Skull crushing Pistols like attack of `Dresden` by the Drongoes For Europe (here called Slaughterhouse 5), Beautiful Psych of `Beneath the Street`s` song `Friends` with lovely `Early Fairport Convention` style Female Vocals and Genesis style backing, plus Outstanding Power Pop by `Eye Do It` with their female crusader telling us to `Knock Down the Wall` (referring to Berlin Wall, obviously recorded prior to event) Sleeve notes by Mike Davis (Melody Maker)...some great rare stuff on here!!
Trivia: Front photo shows all the bands featured on the LP outside Birminghams Gaumont cinema (now demolished) following the original `Brumbeat` LP 1964 Idea & Islands `You Can All Join In` - apparently if you look close you can see the singer of the Pungent Smells with a bag over his head, this was his protest at having his obscene lyrics edited out on the final mix...allegedly

Gradings: I use the standard UK gradings as set out in Record Collector Magazine below:
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Near Mint, EX+, VG+ etc are acceptable additions to help `fine tune` descriptions for the buyer
