VVAA "Triplet - New Finnish Modern Music" LP issued by Love Records (LRLP 57) in Finland, 1972. ****** Rec:ex / Cov:evg+ ****** Teppo Hauta-aho/Jarmo Sermilä/Kari Tikka "Triplet" is an early example of Finnish experimental modern music issued on LP by cult label Love Records. A very specific free form improvisation modern classical music that might remind the previous researches of Nuova Consonanza and the New Music Ensemble. In Teppo Hauta-aho "Klarinettiseptetto" (1971) the final form of the piece is greatly influenced by its performers. Kari Tikka "Kaksi Aforismia" (1971) are two short peaceful meditative atmospheric pieces for 2 violas and cello. Side 2 starts with Teppo Hauta-aho "Improvaatio" (1971), a free form improvisation for solo cello. My favorite piece is Jarmo Sermilä "Monody" (1971), requested by Edward Vesala who plays percussions while the composer plays mellophone. Jarmo Sermilä’s concert music hardly ever displays jazz influences, inventing finnish music however. Improvisation does play an important role in his work, but this is related more to the avant-garde aesthetic of Vinko Globokar than to jazz. Many of the composers pieces make large use of electro-acoustic elements.
