A Description of the Disconet label from discomuseum.com
Disconet Disconet was perhaps the first record label to go about the business of producing records exclusively for the disco nightclub market of the late 1970s. They capitalized on the new music movement of producing extended musical selections of mixed songs to create a unique and extended dance experience. Premiering in October 1977 and founded by "Capt." Mike Wilkinson, Disconet provided mixed/segued DJ dance sets, not only to make the DJs job easier, but to expose club goers to new music. Although Disconet's early issues focused on recreating a DJ "set", the later issues featured re-edits and full blown remixes of current dance music.Disconet issues or "Programs" as they were called usually consisted of a two disc vinyl set (featured sides A & B and bonus sides 1 & 2). 13 programs were released in each volume - a volume spanning about a year's timeframe. Later in its existence, Disconet released 3 "Dance Classics" box sets of vinyl - essentially best of collections. Before its demise in early 1990, 3 different "Dance Classics" compact discs were also issued. Today, 15 years after its last release, Disconet issues are still highly sought after by collectors and dance aficionados. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Description of the Disconet label from djsportal.com DISCONET was part of a New York based company called Sugarscoop - created as subscription program service with professionally selected and mixed disco music for discotheque DJs, mobile discos and radio stations. Program content was selected by DISCONET DJs from new disco releases made available by Record Companies which have licensed DISCONET to provide the service.
DISCONET is called as the "Granddaddy" of all remix services and provided mixed/segued DJ dance sets, not only to make the DJs job a little bit easier, but to expose club goers to new music. The DJs spinning at the height of the disco era were given access to a new creative tool - a different interpretation of current dance tunes to wow club goers.
Disconet's founder Mike 'captain' Wilkinson presented his project during the "Billboard Disco III Forum". His concern was to start a service featuring specially remixed records including unreleased songs as well as hit medleys were to be released on 12" vinyl records. Originally, the Disconet records were to be issued on a monthly basis. Only a limited number 1000 - 1500 copies of each issue was available.
