Track List

A.           Company Fool – 3:25

B.           Sandra – 5:05

Really remarkable band w/ no 2 tracks sounding the same.  Awesome drums and horns on all tracks – recorded loud and soooo clean.  I mention ALL tracks as I have 2 different 45’s from this band listed right now.  Please listen to the samples of all – so much fun and so funky!

Can’t find anything about this band online and only one of the 45’s has sold before.  From the look of the labels and the genre mixture of the tracks, guessing this is from the late 70’s.  Need to Love You / Given You My Life sounds earlier 70’s and even earlier w/ 60’s psych influences.  While the Sandra / Company Fool record sounds much more progressive w/ obvious 70’s disco and new wave influences. Both records are long w/ one of the tracks clocking in at 5:05 each.

No info on the label, so assume on a private label.  In the runouts, reads “MB” and then the catalog number from the labels.  “CSM” is etched—would be surprised if this was pressed at the Santa Maria CBS pressing plant—but maybe?

On this record:

Company Fool:

Starts w/ with an almost ominous organ intro w/ bass and horn, then the track starts w/ something that sounds like a wonky early new wave track w/ a swing trumpet and ragtime clarinet over it.  Vocals sound kind of English new-wavey, but believe this band is from the mid-west US.

Sandra

This is the killer side w/ a clean fast hi-hat Disco Funk Drum break to start that adds a walking bass line. The song really kicks in w/ the horn section that has a mariachi vibe.  Vocals are upbeat and a little distorted.  The breakdown reminds me of Roxy Music w/ a subtle ska beat.  When the beat comes back, they add a Horn w/ Phaser FX, it is just phenomenal.  Conga drum solo at the end! The pace seems to get even faster at the end.

Condition:

LISTEN TO CLIP!

Likely never played before I got it.  It is clean w/ only minimal imperfections on the intro ring that results in a couple pops during the beg. of Company Fool.  On Sandra, the drum break is really nice w/ a bit of background noise. The record plays very loud and clean.  An awesome copy of an extremely rare record.
