This auction features a rare and hard to find Golden Crest recording of the University of Michigan Symphony entitled The Revelli Years with Famous Artists, Volume 3.

This is Golden Crest Catalog Number CRS-4211 and it was pressed in 1981.

This set contains a total of three (3) records and the set is complete with all records and the booklet insert.  The original reply card from Golden Crest Records is still with the item as well.

The insert booklet is 18 pages in length and the each selection is detailed. 

The names and biographical sketches of the visting musical guests the University of Michigan band are detailed within the booklet.  The artists featured in this set are:

There are numerous photos that document the many accomplishments of Dr. Revelli and there is a great photo of him as the Director of the Band at Hobart, Indiana.

The recordings take place from 1959 thru 1968. 

IF the records were ever played, it doesn't show.  They really are in excellent condition.  The covers are in very good shape as well and both covers are attached as they should be.

Brief History of Dr. William D. Revelli

William D. Revelli (February 12, 1902 - July 16, 1994) was the director of bands, including the Michigan Marching Band at the University of Michigan for 36 years from 1935-1971. During that time, the Michigan Marching Band won international acclaim for its musical precision. Revelli is also credited with innovations that moved college marching bands across the country away from rigid military formations. Among other things, Revelli’s Michigan Marching Band was the first to synchronize music and movement and the first to use an announcer.

In one of the most famous stories of Dr. Revelli, In the 1930s, Buick paid for the band to travel to away games. In a show of appreciation, Revelli had the band line up in a “Buck – I” formation at the 1938 Ohio State game. Then, while playing Buick’s theme song, the letter "I" moved between the "u" and the "c" in "Buck" spelling out "Buick." The next morning, athletic director, Mr. Yost reportedly called Revelli at his home at 2:00 a.m. and said: "Young man, never do that again!” Yost did not approve of the injection of commercial advertising onto the college football field.
