I just purchased some items from the estate of a record promoter in the 1960s. I got an envelope from Hugh Biggs with Nimrod Record Shop that contained a letter from Mr. Biggs, an acetate and a record, and some photos of groups he was working with (several who had not yet cut a record) that seemed to be cut from old concert posters. The envelope was mailed August 1964. I am selling in this lot the acetate, the Biggs letter and envelope and the group of “cut photos” including Little Ida. With respect to this listing, I have found only one pertinent piece of information, which comes from a UK soul website. It appears that while Noah (Biggs) discovered Little Ida Randall, (General) Norman Johnson took her up to Cameo Parkway’s studio in Philadelphia to cut his song “Let’s Get Married” (sometime late 1964.) Noah decided to release the song on his own label under the name of Little Ida Sands. That label was to be his new label Shiptown. However, I can find no evidence that the song was ever commercially released on either Parkway or Shiptown. I can find absolutely nothing about the B side song, titled “Same thing happens to you.” Being in August ’64, this recording would have predated Sands’ Northern Soul Shiptown release of “Rescue Me.” The 8" (but 45 rpm) acetate is in very nice condition with just a few scattered light scratches and two very light edge bends of the underlying aluminum on the audiodisc blank that don't affect recordings at all. (Looks like my scanner may have have cutoff one edge in image only.) Low starting bid. Also comes with original audiodisc paper sleeve. I am embedding a clip from the Same thing happens to you cut - keep in mind it is playing on my $40 cheapo phono in a box!
