Out of Los Angeles, this obscure release from the winter of 1964 is the flip to the tune, 'The Huckle-Buck' previously recorded by Chubby Checker on Parkway Records in 1961. The Ultra Mates are in reality L.A.'s top female session singers, The BLOSSOMS which at this point in time the line-up consisted of Darlene Love, Fanita James and Jean King. What is intersting about this disc is that it was re-issued in early 1965 as by The Birdies with a different catalog number and an up-dated A-side title, 'The Huckle-Buck - '65'. While the plug side is a typical, finger-snapping girl pop ditty, the flip, 'Pitter Patter' is a very atmospheric and haunting production that features the lead vocals of Miss Jean King. Recorded at Hollywood's Gold Star Studio, the unique, living and breathing echo chamber was propped wide open on this track.
