An extreemely scarce 1st UK pressing on the original vertigo spiral label (Listed not for its condition) but for its mega rarety! Please note! I have carefully played this album through track for track quite a few times at very loud volume prior to listing. The first thing to note is that the audio is mega clear and vibrant throughout without the usual distortion normally found on these early pressings! . Quite amaizingly there is (no) loud clicks or pops that I heard at all!. However it is important to note that this does play with static crackle that I could only really hear on my Garrard turntable, which is very sensitive and unforgiving, during quiet places only, but strangely this was not noticed on my Bang & Olfsen turntable. Having said this I found this vinyl very very playable and compared to the later more common pressings of this album there is absolutely (no) comparison to the absolute vibrancy, seperation and deep bassey feel that 1st pressings produce! This is complete with the original 1st press Vertigo gatefold cover and vertigo record sleeve! A very very rare and collectable album indeed very rarely appears for sale! 

Salisbury is the second album released by British rock band Uriah Heep!.

More squarely in the progressive rock genre than their debut album from the previous year, it featured their first foray into large–scale composition, with the 16–minute title track featuring a 24–piece orchestra. It also includes the largely acoustic ballad "Lady In Black."!

The album was originally released on the Vertigo label, as had been the band's debut Very 'eavy... Very 'umble, but both were soon re-released when the band signed to Bronze for their third album!.

The connection of the artwork to the title is readily explained. Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England, is an Army training-area. On the front of the album sleeve is a British Chieftain tank. The original LP release was a gatefold-sleeve, with a b/w picture inside of a British tank of the First World War, over which were printed Hensley's comments on each track. Later reissues would be in a single sleeve!.

The vinyl

This retains its original sheen from new and lays perfectly flat on the turntable! In strong light There are some surfacemarks\scratches\scuffs evident,, but amaizingly nothing that produced and loud clicks or pops during the audio that I heard, just light background static crackle heard in quieter places only!

The Audio

Played through prior to listing at very loud volume! The first thing to note! That the audio is clear and very vibrant throughout and superbe audio seperation with a deep bassey feel!  However please allow for some static background crackle that may be evident during the quieter parts of this album! I must emphisise that I heard (no) loud clicks or pops and certainly (no)  skips or jumps and in my honest opinion I found this extreemely enjoyable,, The vibrancy of the audio and absolutely aesome rich bassey feel is evident right from the start. Truly stunning seperation. These early originals can not be compared to later reissues of this album. Pressed from the earliest possible masters makes this highly desirable although there is some interfearance as previously described! but extreemely playable and still enjoyable in my personal opinion. Important to note that I play my records on high end systems at extreemely loud volume, and I have noticed that on some systems when played at a lower acceptable volume that most of this interfearance may not be as noticable!!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! That I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this vinyl as I heard it. and have played it through track for track at loud volume on a top system.  Please allow for the odd static crackle\tick here and there (not) consistant through out the audio!!! Remember this is an original (not) a reissue that is 38 years old and would have been played on a system that is 38 years old!! Please look at my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right!!!

Please note! A constant clean before each play is recomended! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves from laying dormant for over 35 years, causes static ticks \crackle! Cleaning reduces this!!!

The labels

These are the original vertigo large spiral logo labels! (only 1st press) spidering can be seen angled to the light. There is little if (no) spindleware the hole is perfectly round!

The Record Sleeve.

This is the original Poly lined Vertigo Sleeve (no) edge or side splits but becoming fragile with age light general staning and creasing with age, common on these covers. !

The cover

This is the original and very eatrliest 1st press Vertigo Gatefold cover. please note this is the original thick card type which were prone to rubbing ware and were soon changed to thinner card type and more durable print but this is the original 1st press issue!! (normally seen in a terrible state) this has just light general storage ware in the form of light general creases  (one crease at the front bottom right corner to mention) and light general rubbing with age but no nasty names written and is strong and straight as it should be all writing legable even at the spine.

To sum up! This is very highly collectable being the very 1st UK pressing of this album and certainly from my personal experiance, one of the hardest and most sought after Uriah heep albums to ever find in any condition! Please note! There is general ware and tare as I have described but still a very enjoyable playable copy, For those who wish to own an original 1st press of this album.
