This is a rare opertunity to buy this mega scarce and earliest UK pressing very rarely seen for sale! not only that, this audio is awesome throughout! Please do not underestemate the rarety of this awesome phsychadelic rock album in original mono!  so hard to find! Earliest ever! 

A mega rare album to find in this awesome condition becoming more and more collectable now know as an obscure group, an original 60s progressive phsychadelic UK 1st pressing originally released in (mono) rarely seen!! The United States of America was an experimental rock and psychedelic band whose works are an example of early electronic music in rock and roll!!!.

The United States of America is a 1968 album by ''The United States of America''. Although it was a critical success and stayed on the bottom of the Billboard charts for two months, the band broke up due to intraband tension soon after its release!!

Their sound blended a range of musical genres, including avant-garde, psychedelic, and progressive. One of the more notable points of the band was that it had no guitar player, which for its time was quite radical, as the electric guitar occupied a central position in rock music of the time. Instead, they used strings, keyboards and electronics, including primitive synthesizers, and various audio processors, including the ring modulator!!!!.

The record was released in early 1968, at a time when there was a receptive audience for “underground music” which combined musical experimentalism with radical social and/or political lyrics - other examples, in their very different ways, including the Velvet Underground (who shared a common background in the New York experimental music scene; according to Moskowitz, Nico at one point tried to join the USA), Frank Zappa (whom Byrd considered a niche-marketer "subsumed in a self-referential loop", Love’s Forever Changes, Country Joe and the Fish, and Jefferson Airplane!!!!.

Whether intended or not, the record took the form of a coherent “song cycle”, a radical commentary on contemporary American society. The words ranged from satires on decadence ("The American Metaphysical Circus" , "..Wooden Wife..") to lyrical expressions of longing (the pastoral "Cloud Song", the political "Love Song For The Dead Che"). Musically, the songs ranged from pseudo-classical elegance ("Stranded In Time", "Where Is Yesterday") to aggressive discordance and hard rock ("The Garden of Earthly Delights", "Hard Coming Love"), with heavy electronic distortion and collages of “found” music such as brass bands, Byrd being heavily influenced by Charles Ives. The final suite "The American Way of Love" integrates most of these elements, with a dreamlike ending containing a collage of earlier tracks!!!

Despite the widespread support of music critics, the album sold poorly and soon disappeared - at least in the USA, although in the UK it remained fondly remembered, in part because of one track ("Wooden Wife") being used on a popular CBS sampler album.

The band's tour in support of the record led to difficulties of its own. Members of the band were arrested for drug possession, and they had a number of serious equipment failures - these and other tensions made Byrd increasingly difficult to work with, and the group largely unmanageable, and resulted in the band splitting up!!!!.

The vinyl

This is the original very very thick and chunky type of vinyl typical of the 1960s only found on original press these feature much deeper grooves and are more robust than the later reissues! This vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable.!

On initial inspection this looks absolutely awesome! I can hardly see a blemish! Any marks that could possibly be seen in strong light would be light whyspy marks mainly sleeve removal only!!

I have played this through track for track at loud volume on a top system! The 1st thing to note is that the audio is cristal clear and vibrant with (no) signs of grooveware or that this has been overplayed what so ever! It is important to note that this album has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 25 years! A build up of dirt and dust causes static crackle\ticks which are only evidant during some quiet parts, A constant clean before each play is recomended !! This will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality! I found the audio truly outstanding with (no) clicks or pops and certainly (no) jumps or skips! You will find these original mono recordings hard to surpass and of coarse this is the rarest and most sought after (MONO) DEBUT by the Awesome band 'THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'' highly sought after and collectable original!!!!!!

The original CBS labels are awesome very very minimal spidering can just barely be seen angled to the light this amaizingly looks like it has barely ever been playued unbeleivable for40 years old!! little id (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round!! ''Made In England'' is featured only UK press!!!

This is the original CBS advertising serpier sleeve (only 1st press)  in superbe condition becoming fragile with age. Please note the vinyl is now stored seperately from the cover and sleeve ! This is how i have always stored my records!!!

This is the original 1st uk press cover (laminated front) In my opinion exceptional condition for 40 years old   minimal general creases and light laminate bubbling can be seen angled to the light but nothing too bad  in my opinion. The rear is exceptionaly clean a small number track time can be seen top right fairly square corners and in general very minimal storageware\scuffing to talk of   superbe spine all of the writing can clearly be seen! AN EXCEPTIONAL EXAMPLE! 1ST PRESS COVER STRONG AND STRAIGHT EXCELLENT!!!
